Who could ever forget this game? “This city was once a happy peaceful place… until one day, a powerful secret criminal organization took over.

This vicious syndicate soon had control of the government and even the police force. The city has become a center of violence and crime where no one is safe.

Amid this turmoil, A group of determined young police officers has sworn to clean up the city. Among them are Adam Hunter, Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding, they are willing to risk anything…even their lives…on the…streets of rage.”

Ahhh beat em’ ups. They never got old. Adam, Axel, and Blaze do one thing and one thing only… kick ass. I can recall staying up until 1 A.M. every weekend playing this game for a month straight with friends. It just never got boring. For its time the graphics were above average and all the sprites were done very well indeed.

Hiyaaah

You have three characters to select from, each having their own unique abilities in the art of kicking butt. Each level concist of a mass hoard of thugs at your disposal. as well as plenty of weapons to pick up along the way. Not to mention one amazing special move via police aid where a police car comes along and destroys everything in its path.

Like I said earlier the two player co-op is where this game really shines. Nothing like having a friend over, getting all hopped up on coca-cola and playing this button masher until your fingers hurt. After replaying this game after many years I tried to get my girlfriend to play along side with me to no avail.

Streets of Rage still holds up to today’s fast paced gaming in my eyes. If any franchise needed an update, it would be this one. The game did spawn three sequels. It is Unfortunate I never played part three but I can recall the second one having a memorable black character named “Skate” to choose from. Look for the game on Ebay, you can probably buy it with out the box for ten cents. I wouldn’t be surprised if it hit the Wii Virtual Console by now away.

Over all I would give this title a solid A for its pretty graphics, nice soundtrack and and fun factor/re playability that was through the charts for its time.
