JRA PAT

JRA-PAT (standing for Japanese Racing Association-Personal Access Terminal) is a defunct horse-race betting software for the Famicom Network System. It may have also been Nintendo’s first horse-racing themed software since the release of their 1975 mechanical arcade game EVR Race.

The software was used to place bets on horse racing online (believed to be with real money), and is similar to the PIT Motorboat Race software, both of which are no longer functional.

According to Masayuki Uemura, JRA-PAT was the most popular software for the network system, of which about 100,000 units used, and it was quite successful even among all other services dedicated to online horse racing, with apparently 35% of the market placing their bets from a Famicom.
