Marl de Jigsaw is an action jigsaw puzzle spinoff of the Marl Kingdom series. It plays much like the other jigsaw games from Nippon Ichi, modifying the traditionally-leisurely game for competitive play. All of the characters and illustrations are from the first two Marl Kingdom games.
Each player is given only four pieces at any time, and must complete the puzzle by placing pieces into the correct places as quickly as possible. The first player to complete three puzzles is declared the winner. Rapidly placing the correct pieces will fill a meter which allows four different types of special moves to hinder the opponent, such as by removing solved pieces or obscuring the available pieces. Each of the more than two-dozen characters have their own set of moves available.
There are a number of different modes available. There is a battle mode for one or two players, which comes in two different variants. There is also a story mode where Crea sets out to find a missing piece of Kururu’s puzzle, and must defeat a variety of other characters at jigsaw battles to do so. There is of course also a solo mode where any puzzle can be freely played with a variety of options. Last, there is a museum mode, where high-resolution images of any cleared puzzle can be viewed.
