Slip Stream is an arcade F1 racing game. It is not FIA licensed, but at least four cars have the same colors as 1993’s Benetton, McLaren, Ferrari and Williams cars, and the four tracks available are based on the real Germany (Hockenheim), Japan (Suzuka), Australia (Adelaide) and Monaco tracks. There are three playing modes available:
– Time Trial: where players select one course and try to beat the best time;
– World Championship: where players compete in 4 courses, having to finish at 3rd place at least to qualify to the next race;
– Passing contest: where players have to pass a given number of cars, depending on difficulty, to qualify to the next of 4 courses.
After choosing the playing mode, players get to choose one out of eight cars, each with different handling, acceleration, max speed and rain grip. The main gameplay feature that gives the game its name is that players can activate a turbo boost by following the slipstream of other cars. Cars also have a turbo meter that is charged in every new lap and can be spent by pressing a button, but slipstreaming is unlimited.
