Summon Night 2 is the sequel to the original title in the Summon Night series. It was released for the Playstation and later ported to the Nintendo DS, however it has never been officially brought to North America.
All of the Summon Night games takes place in Lyndbaum, a world similar to medieval Europe with the inclusion of modern factories and railroads, placing Summon Nights in a steampunk setting. Lyndbaum is surrounded by four other worlds: Loreilal, the land where mechanical creatures hail from; Silturn, the land of Onis; Sapureth, where angels and demons come from; and Maetropa. where half-humans, magical beasts, fairies and other mythical creatures hail. Besides those four there are also countless other worlds, including our world (the “real” world) where the main characters of the first game are transported from.
Certain boundaries separate the worlds from each other, making the various summoning techniques the only way to transport things between them.
The land of Lyndbaum serves as a nexus that’s bordered by four worlds – Loreilal, Maetropa, Sapureth, and Silturn. Each land is populated by different races and beings – humans live in Lyndbaum but if you’re in search of an angel or demon, Sapureth is where they reside. Due to the boundaries between the worlds, travelers can’t traipse between them. There is a way to move entities between worlds however – a Summoner can serve as the conduit by which a being or creature moves from one world to another.
Summon Night 2 is a tactical strategy game with RPG elements where players take control of a male of female hero and venture into grid-based battlefields. The Summon Night games are story intensive with well developed characters who interact with other well developed characters. The protagonist is a summoner who may call upon creatures from the four worlds to aid and abet during battlefield dramatics.
Building on the popularity of the original Summon Night, the sequel continues the ability of summoning animal familiars to help in battles as well as magical attacks to scorch foes. Beasts may also evolve as they gain more experience and take on new forms. Players may also engage in mini-games to gain experience and items.
