Upon arrival in Cosmo Canyon, your journey continues with a straightforward path towards the designated objective amidst the rugged landscape. If you wish, take a detour to Kamaria’s Ranch for a brief interlude. However, the primary goal lies to the east, higher up the mountain. As you reach your destination, the party is greeted warmly, and you’ll notice a marked shift in Red XIII’s demeanor. Curiosity piqued, you decide to follow him and soon uncover that Cosmo Canyon is his birthplace, and he has made the weighty decision to remain behind in service to his home. Although Red XIII parts ways with the group, you persist, ascending the Observatory Elevator, where you’re ultimately introduced to the wise and enigmatic Bugenhagen.
Bugenhagen welcomes you to the Cosmo Observatory, a place brimming with knowledge and interstellar curiosities. Here, you’re encouraged to engage with various objects, each interaction weaving more threads into the rich tapestry of the game’s universe. Across the observatory’s three floors, you’ll encounter an array of intriguing devices begging for exploration. The crowning jewel of the observatory is the massive telescope housed on the top floor. It is during your educational foray that a peculiar rumble from a machine on the second floor disrupts the silence, signaling the narrative’s march forward. Bugenhagen gestures for you to join him as he leads you deeper into the observatory’s confines, ready to unveil the secrets of the galaxy and the home planet that cradles the lore of Final Fantasy 7.
Tifa and Aerith are extended an invitation to attend a seminar, and you have the option to accompany them. En route to the seminar, don’t miss the opportunity to visit the storeroom accessed through the Discovery section — it’s a treasure trove of complimentary items and crafting materials. During the seminar, you’ll witness Tifa taking an active role in the discussion, which soon concludes. The next event on the agenda is a ceremony in Cosmo Canyon, which necessitates descending via the Torch Elevator.
Upon arrival, make it a point to converse with the rest of your party members. Once you’ve done so, the path for Aerith will open up, leading to a pivotal cutscene. At a certain juncture within the dialogue choices, be sure to select “Encourage her” to support her in the narrative.
Following the ceremony, Bugenhagen reveals he has a significant matter to share with the group. As he speaks and seemingly defies gravity, he escorts you to The Sealed Door. Here, Red XIII faces a rite of passage and Cloud is called upon to aid him in the trial. This challenge is recommended for characters at Level 36 or above, so ensure your party is suitably prepared before you venture inside.
Once the door is unlocked, the elevator descends into the depths of the Cave of the Gi, culminating at the Chamber of Deception. The path forward allows for only a duo; the choice falls to Barret to join Red XIII, whom you now have the reins of. After triumphing over the initial wave of adversaries, Red XIII gains the newfound ability to clamber up certain luminescent surfaces. This skill is immediately put to the test, as you must navigate Red XIII to ascend and retrieve an item from a yellow chest, and then continue your ascent on the wall across from it.
Advance through the chamber until you are faced with a door, flanked by statues with glowing eyes. The instruction is to sever a rope to unlock this gateway. To achieve this, rotate and identify the climbable rock situated directly behind you that leads to the spot where you can cut the rope.
Upon entering the Chamber of Folly, the path leads inexorably downward. In the expansive room centered around a Gi statue, your task is to collect scattered artifacts and present them to Bugenhagen for evaluation. The particular artifact of interest is perched high on the rear wall. To access it, guide your character to the upper ledge located in the back-left corner, then scale to the higher platform. Preparedness is key, as this ascent will prompt an encounter with the formidable Gi Lancer.
Secure the artifact and carry it with you; it is an essential component for an altar situated within the main chamber. There, you’ll also discover an amber altar to the right. The last altar lies further down the pathway on the right, which requires you to adeptly navigate along the wall. The final statue awaits in the last room; however, on your return journey, you’ll be challenged to a solo battle against another Gi Lancer. Upon its defeat, make your way back to the main chamber and insert the statue into the remaining vacant slot.
This action unlocks a new corridor leading into the Chamber of Sacrifice. Here, you must traverse through a sequence of gates to successfully complete the trial. The initial gate necessitates drawing the chain on the right fully backward. The subsequent gate requires you to secure its chain onto the protruding rod on the floor to the right. To navigate the final gate, start by pulling the chain directly ahead to bring forth a platform for leaping onto. Resist crossing any further; instead, turn right and ascend the wall to reach and pull a second chain at the summit. Now you have access to cross to the gate’s side, where another rod can be collected and placed into its socket. This action replicates the process used for the second gate, allowing you to pass through the third gate in the same manner.
