I’ve never actually owned a Sega Saturn before so don’t have much experience with them, what normally is the cause for this and are there any easy fixes or does something need replaced/repaired? It spins the disc for a few seconds when I put it in but just stays on this screen. The battery needs replaced but I don’t have one yet and assume that wouldn’t affect reading discs but like I said I have very little experience with Saturns. Thanks for any help
This post has been captured from our very own retro gaming group over at FB
If it freezes on disc access then try cleaning the pins between the two boards
What I might check is if the lid has a latch to tell the console it’s closed it may not be catching and therefore telling the console not to spin the disc and start the game. A ps2 slim I picked up has this issue and I have to put an object with a bit of weight on that spot so it will recognize it’s closed and play the disc. Just don’t put anything flammable lol.
Mine does this once in a while, I just turn it off and back on and it’s fine.
Laser adjustment or replacement.
Hi mate. Battery won’t matter (this is for save data mostly).
This usually means either your lens needs a clean (I would use an alcohol cleaning product and a cotton bud) or it could be the actual drive on the spindle isn’t achieving adequate RPM so the disc can’t be read properly. Sometimes this happens with Saturn’s that have been used a lot. Other people might have better answers but best of luck
I had this before and bought a replacement psu.
Laser went out
Better off buying a new disc drive that’s what I did after replacing a laser, it was to complicated to calibrate the new laser. Super easy to swap the whole disc drive. I’ve also modded one with a Fenrir sd card reader.
