NES themed enamel pins coming to Kickstarter on March 30th

If you grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, you probably have some of the iconic game art from the NES era burned into your memory banks. The art varied from pixel representations of the actual game to fantastical imagery that set your imagination in motion.

Dave Andersen, the streamer behind Pure Retro Colorado, is putting together a collection of 1” enamel pins based off the art of 8 different classic NES games. The art for these games was recreated pixel by pixel on a 96 x 96 pixel digital canvas (equates to 1”x1”) with the hopes to bring them to life with the help of a Kickstarter campaign

Example of the pixel art on Super Mario Bros zoomed in:

The modest initial funding goal of $250 will unlock 3 designs: Super Mario Bros, Super Mario Bros 2 and Super Mario Bros 3. Backers can select from several options to purchase 1 or more of the designs. If the support is large enough, designs for Gold Zelda and Zelda II carts will become available, as well as Metroid (yellow label), Contra and Super C unlocking at various stretch goals.

Dave has previously made 1” pixel pins of Link from A Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, opening a chest and pulling out a beverage of choice. These were given out as gifts to subscribers of his twitch stream. An example of these pins can be seen here:

The Kickstarter goes live on March 30th and runs through April 30th. The pins are expected to start shipping out to backers by July of this year. There will be Early Bird backer specials during the first 72 hours of the campaign as a Thank You to those supporting the project from the start. You can follow and share the project from its preview page here to be notified when it goes live!
