I see a lot of posts about how some of us acquire such a large collection, in a short time, for minimal cost. How much time do you spend really looking? This was 5 hours of driving AND looking in stores around 3 different towns, all these for under $20. A hobby is something you enjoy doing despite the time/cost and looks you get from people from your excitement finding things ๐Ÿ˜‚. Also dvd sections are usually overlooked but usually have games thrown in by accident. Thatโ€™s where I find a good majority in thrift stores.

This post has been captured from our very own retro gaming group over at FB

  1. I go out once every couple of weeks to the retro stores within a half hour drive, that’s 3 stores, hoping they had a good turnover since last time i was there but if I’m looking for something specific they don’t have at the time i search eBay. Thrift stores around here suck now, it seems they caught on to how much these things are worth and are now charging more than the actual game stores.

  2. Not much time, eBay / filter brand new / search “xxxx sealed” / checkout / go throw up in the toilet. ๐Ÿ˜ฌ๐Ÿ˜†

  3. Most thrift stores near me put everything online now.
    FL

  4. I buy online so my collection looks how I want. I would not be okay with games missing boxes, manuals, or player choice variants like you posted, but that’s me. Whatever you enjoy

  5. #1 you have to have patience. You might go months without finding anything. #2 you have to have the funds to strike when opportunities come up. They always seem to come in bunches. If you follow rule #1, you will have to money when a bunch of deals come at the same time. #3 be prepared to buy larger lots and sell off what you don’t need. This how you manufacture your own good deal

  6. I like when the deals find me, but that’s just my process and how I go about it.

  7. At my max I had 15 consoles and about 200 games in total.
I have various things like vintage Nintendo plush Mario, vintage gaming comics, and stuff like that.
Took me years to get everything because I used to be strictly a out in the wild find kind of a guy.
I refused to pay the prices on many of the games I have.
    It took me 14yrs.
I may not have a huge collection, however the games I have are 90% AAA games and I didn’t pay a fraction of what they are currently worth.

  8. 5 hours driving to get that? Waste of time, gas and wear on your vehicle. Should have stayed home and in 10 mins got that off ebay for less

  9. i agree with Jordan Baxley that sux for 5 hrs this was 4 hr of hunting for me

  10. Try being in Manitoba. Each town is an hour away and they have a population of <3000

  11. Man Iโ€™ll be honest that deal is not worth driving 5 hours for me personally. Not only $20 but also time and money on gas.

For me, Iโ€™m always looking on FB marketplace. Usually once a month or so Iโ€™ll find a good deal. Keep what I want and sell the rest to a friend who has his own business. Itโ€™s been a solid plan for the last few years. Iโ€™m able to build a big collection basically for free.

  12. Vice city stories is a great score ; bounces around from 60-100cad
