PSA 🚨Back in 2013 Microsoft announced it would require players to connect to the internet once every 24 hours in order to keep the xbox playing games. You would have to activate each game by registering it on the web before playing. The console would also restrict the way that game discs are traded, borrowed and shared, limiting the number of people who could own and play each game, and restricting trade-ins on a publisher-by-publisher basis.
That generation of gamers lost its f***ing mind and Microsoft removed all these terrible features. That generation is getting old now, and they don’t have as much say or even fight in them. Alas, this new generation is completely bending over. They are BEGGING for the big X by going digital only, and they are all out of lube at Microsoft. We’re going to be bamboozled and completely digital soon because of these kids. It’s not funny.
Microsoft is getting their way after all, they just had to wait one more generation to do so. Talk to your kids about the dangers of going digital before it’s too late…
This post has been captured from our very own retro gaming group over at FB
Video game social justice post
I demand consumer protections on a government level.
Love this! 💕♥️✌️
You’re not wrong
Sony will follow suit
If big corporations are making decisions you dont like the best thing to do is show them with your wallet – theyll get the message eventually. Unless its Disney, they seem to love burning money on things nobody wants to pay them for 😅
Yep. My kids have been all told not to purchase any digital game. Physical only. They are not gone be victims 👊
No more digital purchases from me for anything. I will switch to only Nintendo if it comes to it. I enjoy not having to switch discs but not worth them being worthless when they decide To do away with them
I’m 42 and still gaming. My PS4 I only get digital games.its just less hassle than having to install the game anyway then download an update anyway.
My PC has been digital only for years already and its no big deal. I still by physical for the Switch and of course all my classic and retro consoles.
I hate that you’re right, but I think you’re right.
There’s no way digital only will work for consoles unless it is subscription service only. Most people will just play PC.
My son blows $25/wk on Roblox digital currency. That’s $1300+ per year on a “free” game. The industry has changed. I spend $200+ year on a Game Pass Ultimate subscription and rarely buy anything for my Xbox outside of that. That’s $200+ a year plus the $500 box. So over a 7 year lifecycle, Microsoft is getting $1900 from me at least. Looking back I thought I would use the disc drive more, but in reality we only used it maybe once or twice. Wish I would have saved the $200 and got an S instead. I’m not overly concerned about 4K/120FPS.
I considered an all digital PS5, but then realized Game Pass keeps me plenty busy so skipping PlayStation yet again this generation.
Switch games I bought physical since day 1, but over the last year or two I found myself wishing I would have went digital so I didn’t have to get up and get the cartridge, 😂.
Switch 2 I’ll be going all digital – as well as any future Switch purchases starting in 2024 – since Nintendo assured us everything will transfer seamlessly. (We’ll see…)
Looking back, our consoles are all online all the time anyways, and I never buy or sell used games – so it was never a selling point for me.
My son plays PC mostly and has done so since he was about 9. He never stood a chance when it comes to digital media taking over. I went heavy digital during the PS4 but also got back into retro games right around the end of its life so I’m back to physical unless I get a hell of a deal.
Sony and Nintendo are doing the same but Sony is worse unfortunately
Sony and Nintendo are doing the exact same thing. So dont be blaming just xbox. And steam is 100% digital and i bet your using it
I’m 41 and have been playing games since I was a kid. My first console was the Mega Drive. I’ve held off getting a PS5 and Series X because I’ve just had enough of the games industry in recent years. The industry isn’t for people like me anymore. Times change, new people are put in charge (suits who love pie charts and demographics, especially when an industry becomes successful) and I’m ok with it. I’ve amassed a huge collection of games and I’m happy now to cut off at the PS4 Pro and Xbox One X and just, well, ‘retire’.
as if we didn’t already know that after a while
support for things gets dropped
like ps2 store and soon ps3 store
heck, i have a game that i downloaded on ps4 and it is no longer supported.
that’s why i do
fizzy physical only
… except on the switch
It’s interesting this is the second post in a row talking about how companies are bending us over (the other was about streaming platforms). Basically people don’t know how to boycott correctly anymore unless it’s something trivial like a beer company.
In this age of technology there’s absolutely no reason you can’t have what you want and not give these greedy corporations a single dime 😁
There’s no reason you can’t do both physical & digital.
I loved the original Xbox and the 360. That whole fiasco is why I walked away from Microsoft for all things video games. I’ve had zero desire to support them since.
I don’t know if I’ll ever get a digital only system. I like to own physical media. Plus we live out in a rural area with slow internet. A 50gb game might take a couple days to download and kills my bandwidth.
I’m not thrilled about the way the game industry has been going and I’ll have no problem boycotting. There are plenty of games to play without supporting the corporate vampires
This generation of kids dont care.
Haven’t bought an Xbox since the 360. Not missing much, Xbox never really had too many great title, plus I prefer to own what I pay for.
And don’t just got exploited for thinking about going this route and everyone still find ways to be mad at Microsoft. Atleast Microsoft LISTENED to their crowd and changed their mind. Sony and Nintendo would have never changed their minds because of us and that’s something we need to look for with these companies
Meh.
If my 11yr old doesn’t gaf why should I?
I’ll happily play Mario kart on SNES/N64/cube/switch while he watches people play Minecraft on YouTube videos…
Just because I think it’s stupid to not have a physical copy of something doesn’t invalidate a non-hoarding of material possessions mentality.
Little bastich can sell all the retro stuff that increases in value when I die 😉
The reason I abandoned PC gaming and actually went to console gaming was because of Steam.
It’s gonna get worse there wanting to stream games on all different consoles
Are you blaming digital media on kids and young adults? lol.
Stop blaming generations for mass laziness, start blaming companies for streamlining media directly into your home. Why would anyone go to the theater when they can spend a faction of the cost at home renting directly from their TV?
Why would the average gamer go buy physical copies of their favorite games when they’re listed at 40% off online? (Not all the time but digital sales happen more often)
My point is… you’re blaming kids for this stuff when in reality it’s the companies not wanting to put in work to create physical copies to save themselves money. If they can charge $60-70 for a full game digitally why wouldn’t they? Everyone will purchase and be happy to be alongside friends, the average consumer doesn’t want to swap or take care of disks.
(Before people come at me, I LOVE my physical collection and I buy physical copies of games 90-1 over digital, I just know why they’re swapping to a digital format)
This is the same generation that has never bought vinyl, tape or CD; they stream from Spotify. They’ve never bought or even rented a Beta/VHS, DVD or BlueRay; they stream from Netflix. They’ve never bought floppies, computer CDs or DVDs; their OS and apps are all downloads or even in the cloud (maybe the odd USB drive). Half their apps are subscriptions, some have in-app purchases, Why would they care that their games are not physical either?
Physical is dead. Even Nintendo will eventually go there. We should enjoy our physical games while we keep those snotty little digital gamers off our lawns!!!
