Hey everyone!!
Just got my first retro system to begin my collection and with it i got my childhood games!!!
I AM REALLY Leaning towards a Flat Screen TV and wanted to know what TV I should get… If i went with a flat screen… am i best getting component cables? Or getting a “HDMI TO PS2” adapter? Whats everyone else using?!?
Only other consoles i plan on setting up with my PS2 are a Nintendo 64, PS5 and Xbox 360 and Series X… and maybe a game cube down the road. Since those are the consoles i really only have interest in.
Thanks everyone!

I have this Sony lcd. It displays 1:1 480p and even interlaced content looks good. Ps2 era consols look amazing on it!
Well PS2 is retro but in the intermediate category, meanwhile from the 2010’s is considered modern
A lot of people fails at what you accomplished, simply because they were busy finding problem while you were busy finding solutions. Well done sir Nelson the best trader ever, knowledge did a lot Nelson Andrade Silva
When i had a ps2, i used the sony component cables…they’re pretty great. That said, from what i remember, ps2 doesnt clean up as well as gamecube or og xbox on components, but there may be really good options these days if thats not good enough for your needs.
If you have the room I would run a crt hands down if you don’t have much room you can get one of the smaller ones , usually cheap on fb market place and native connections and native screen ratio makes it the best option imo
CRT, mang.
Definitely get a CRT. Anything older than ps3/xbox360 looks the best on a CRT and look average on flatscreens.
Flat screen ok for Xbox 360 and PS2 but older consoles will not look so good and so you need to be on the lookout for a crt TV.
Dude congrats this is awesome! I’m after a PS2 myself, this version in particular as I have the small one but want my old one back
Crt plus scart
X box x plays 360 games most of them at least I’ve tried
They’re expensive though https://www.hdretrovision.com/other-consoles
CRT with component cables
Looks best on a Sony trinitron with component
Nice
I feel old. When PS 2 is considered retro.
Cool
You REALLY don’t want to play a ps2 on anything other than a crt. It’s probably the most fickle console ever, with its constant switching from 240p to 480i. It also has terrible aliasing without scan lines to break up the pixels. Plus input lag, worse contrast ratio, etc. You would absolutely need an upscaler to get a halfway decent image on an lcd
Great machine
I use the HD RetroVision component cables (40 on Amazon), and an old 720p flat panel TV, that I got for free on marketplace. Now is the time to score those old TV’s from the PS2 through Wii era. You can use an adapter and throw a solid state drive in there if you ever want to.
Remember a wii could be cheaper than a game cube now and days and can also play gamecube games as well 😁
My Lcd flatscreen that’s older works great. Aux hook ups and hdmi options. Works for everything no prob!
I run all my hardware to a modern flatscreen through either cheap RGB to HDMI or Component to HDMI converters. Some of the consoles you mentioned will need modded to output the correct signals, mainly the N64. GameCube component cables are also really expensive, cheaper to get an original model Wii if you want component output.
Honestly depends how much you want to spend and how much you care about picture quality. Can get expensive really quick. The cheap solution is to just get a composite to HDMI adapter.
You can also get HDMI mods for some of those consoles, but be prepared to pay A LOT for it.
CRT all the way for retro gaming. It’s what the games were designed to be played on. The images and sprites align more naturally on CRT TVs compared to newer flat screen LCD and OLED TVs.
I run all my non hdmi consoles directly into my CRT. A 36” Panasonic TX-36PD30 which has four scart sockets and component.
I use SCART switcher box for my Ps1, Dreamcast, snes and Mega drive. My Xbox, Ps2, Wii and GameCube are hooked up via component cables into a component switch box into the tv. All my modern stuff, PS3, Xbox 360 and upwards go into my flat screen TV.
Not everyone can do it but if you can look at a CRT. If your TV can do component use that for your PS2. Decent cables can be picked up for it. Keep clear of composite cables.
