After an awe-inspiring arrival at the Gold Saucer, you’ll disembark from the flying carriage and step outside, where another cutscene unfolds. Aerith, Tifa, and Yuffie engage in lively dance routines, showcasing their enthusiasm for the vibrant atmosphere. Meanwhile, Cloud meets Dio, the owner of the Gold Saucer, and participates in an exhilarating 3D Brawler match, testing his combat skills in a new arena.

Excited to explore more of the Gold Saucer’s attractions, the girls and Red XIII eagerly rush off, leaving Cloud and Barret to handle the practical matter of securing accommodations. The duo heads to The Haunted Hotel to book rooms for the party. It is here that they encounter a peculiar new character named Cait Sith, whose presence adds an element of intrigue to their already eventful stay at the Gold Saucer.

After securing rooms on the fourth floor of The Haunted Hotel, take the elevator up to your suite. Barret parts ways with you, allowing Cloud some much-needed rest. As Cloud drifts off to sleep, the game shifts its focus to Zack, who finds himself in the company of the other Cloud and Aerith. Take a moment to check on Aerith and her Materia before exiting through the door on the left. Venture downstairs in search of a meal, where you’ll also receive a thought-provoking lecture from Marlene.

The scene then transitions back to Cloud at the Gold Saucer, who is awakened a few hours later by a knock at the door. Tifa, concerned about Cloud’s well-being, suggests they explore the amusement park together. During this conversation, the game introduces the concept of Gold Saucer Points, which can be earned by participating in the park’s various attractions. These points can then be exchanged for unique collector’s items at designated kiosks throughout the Gold Saucer.

After this revelation, take the elevator back down to the lobby, where a cutscene reveals Barret’s troubled reaction to something he notices. However, you continue to play as Cloud, so follow the objective markers within the Gold Saucer to progress the story and uncover the source of Barret’s concern.

As you explore the Gold Saucer with Tifa, be sure to visit each of the main attractions: Wonderment Square, Event Square, Speed Square, Battle Square, Chocobo Square, and Skywheel Square. Take the opportunity to enjoy the Galactic Saviors ride, test your skills in the G-Bike game, and prove your might in the Musclehead Colosseum.

Just as Cloud and Tifa are about to embark on a romantic date aboard the Skywheel, Cait Sith urgently informs them of a shooting at the Battle Square. Rushing to the scene, the group discovers that Barret has been wrongfully accused of the crime. Determined to clear his name, you must now investigate the true culprit behind the incident.

Under Cait Sith’s guidance, the team is escorted to the Corel Prison, where they find themselves taken hostage. To raise the necessary funds for their release and uncover Barret’s whereabouts, you’ll need to participate in and win Chocobo races. As you’re led to the racing area, be sure to retrieve the Umbral Blade from the purple chest along the way.

At the Chocoboutique, you’ll encounter Billy, a familiar face from the Grasslands, who is also set to race with his Chocobo, Piko. However, Piko appears to be in poor condition, requiring you to find suitable food to help the Chocobo regain its strength before the race.

To acquire the food needed to restore Piko’s strength, you can participate in various activities around the Corel Prison. Start by playing Desert Rush, a mini-game that rewards you with greens upon completion. Next, obtain the key to the bartender’s garden and make your way up there to gather additional greens. Finally, challenge other players in rounds of Queen’s Blood, a card game where victory yields even more greens.

Once you’ve collected a total of three greens, return to the Chocoboutique and feed them to Piko. With his energy replenished, the Chocobo will be ready to race. Approach Garth to initiate the racing sequence, but to your surprise, it will be Esther who escorts you to the starting line.

In the lobby, take a moment to familiarize yourself with the racing controls and mechanics through a bit of practice. When you feel confident, it’s time to put your skills to the test in the real race. Your objective is to secure a first-place finish, as victory is essential to your plans.

Upon winning the race, Gus will honor his agreement and grant you freedom, allowing you to pursue Barret and unravel the mystery surrounding his disappearance.

After regaining your freedom, follow the vulture’s lead to the scrapyard where Barret is being held captive. In the ensuing cutscene, Barret appears and reveals the identity of the true culprit behind the Gold Saucer murder through a flashback sequence.

As you regain control of your character, press onward and locate the purple chest containing the Vulcan Cannon, a powerful weapon that may prove useful in the challenges ahead. Continue your descent into the next area, where you’ll eventually come face-to-face with Dyne.

Before proceeding through the fence, Barret insists on confronting Dyne alone, resulting in a temporary change to your party composition. With only Barret by your side, approach the red double doors at the back of the area, where you’ll discover Dyne tied to a chair, seemingly consumed by madness.

In an attempt to rescue his old friend, Barret frees Dyne from his restraints. However, upon spotting Cloud, Dyne’s demeanor shifts dramatically, and the reunion quickly devolves into a fierce boss battle. Prepare yourself for an emotionally charged confrontation as Barret is forced to face the demons of his past head-on.

You remain in control of Barret throughout this battle, so leverage his firearm and Abilities to stagger Dyne. The majority of Dyne’s assaults, which also utilize a gun-arm, can be dodged with relative ease. Given Barret’s robust nature and substantial health capacity, the necessity for healing should be minimal. As the boss cycles through various phases and attack sequences, you’ll find that, provided your level is adequate, managing this fight shouldn’t pose too much of a challenge.

Following the cinematic sequence, once you triumph in the skirmish, the narrative shifts back to Cloud as Shinra helicopters hover in the background. Retrace your steps to locate Dyne. Your next opponent is the Anuran Suppressor, which has a vulnerability to Lightning attacks. Apply the tactics that served you well in past boss fights: concentrate on building the stagger meter to unleash significant damage when the opportunity arises. Midway through the confrontation, you’ll get the chance to target its right and left legs. Prioritize these to momentarily disable the machine, giving you a window to focus on increasing the stagger gauge.

Subsequent to the battle and the following cutscene, Dio provides a monster truck for your getaway from Shinra’s forces. As motorbikes and helicopters chase you, use Barret’s firearm to take them down. Palmer makes a final attempt to stop you in his formidable robot; when possible, aim for the laser cannon to counter his efforts.

Following the upcoming set of cinematic scenes, you’ll take on the role of Zack, who is in pursuit of Biggs. Navigate through the Sector 5 Undercity, engaging with residents who have speech bubbles indicating they can be spoken to, to inquire if they have any information on his whereabouts. After you’ve questioned 4 individuals, a sudden explosion will occur off-screen. At this point, head towards the objective marker to investigate the disturbance. It is here where you will encounter Biggs, bringing Chapter 8 to a conclusion.
