DOSBox-X Git (2026/01/07) is a compiled version of DOSBox-X, an enhanced branch of DOSBox that emulates Intel x86 PCs, allowing users to run old MS-DOS games on modern systems like Windows XP, Vista, and Linux. The update includes several bug fixes, such as corrections to video debug overlays for CGA/PCjr/Tandy formats and a CPU Idle Callback issue that previously hindered performance. Enhancements also address debugging with LOGL improvements, build errors for HX-DOS, and WASAPI support for MinGW-w64 and MSVC. Additionally, redundant flags in LDFLAGS were removed. DOSBox-X Git (2026/01/07) has been compiled. DOSBox-x is a variant of DOSBox. DOSBox simulates an Intel x86 PC, complete with sound, graphics, mouse, joystick, modem, and more, which are essential for playing numerous classic MS-DOS games that canโt run on contemporary PCs and operating systems such as Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, and FreeBSD.
DOSBox-X Changelog:
* Corrected video debug overlay concerning CGA/PCjr/Tandy/etc interleaved scan line count
* Resolved a bug in the CPU Idle Callback that didnโt restrict IRQ processing to a single CPU instruction. This led to the idle function executing for as long as the CPU could until the next scheduled PIC event. When Render on Demand is active, there are significantly fewer PIC events, causing the Idle function to consume much more emulator time. This addresses a bug where Render on Demand resulted in Xargon screen transitions taking 5 to 10 times longer than usual
* Ah… what the?
* Modified LOGL to print PIC_FullIndex() to help debug timing issues
* Merged pull request #6043 from maron2000/fix_mingw
* Fixed HX-DOS build error
* WASAPI is only supported on MinGW-w64 and MSVC
* Corrected reference error in MinGW builds
* Merged pull request #6042 from maron2000/fix_mac_crash
* Adjusted LDFLAGS and removed unnecessary flags
