DOSBox emulates an Intel x86 PC, providing sound, graphics, mouse, joystick, modem, and other functionalities necessary for playing numerous classic MS-DOS games that are incompatible with contemporary PCs and operating systems like Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, and FreeBSD.
DOSBox-X Changelog:
* Introduced a dosbox.conf option to set the duration of the beep when the console and INT 10h encounter a BEL character
* DOS console: In IBM PC mode, BEL output is directed to INT 10h to handle the beep, eliminating redundant code. In PC-98 mode, BEL is directly managed by appropriately programming the PC speaker for PC-98 BEL handling
* Bugfix: Default behavior was to zero memory on DOS allocmem, with the code to read dosbox.conf commented out. This led to crashes in Bad Cat by Rainbow Arts, as the game operates with an “overlay” system that anticipates DOS not to clear memory during allocation. Specifically, it stores its stack beyond the main EXE memory block, expecting the OVL exe files to load between it and the stack without disruption.
