DOSBox-X Git (2026/03/14) is a compiled version of DOSBox, which emulates an Intel x86 PC to run old MS-DOS games on modern systems like Windows XP, Vista, Linux, and FreeBSD. The latest changelog includes updates for SDL1 to detect X11 or Wayland desktop environments, preventing unnecessary driver initialization. It also addresses a bug related to INT 21h memory resizing, ensuring that ownership isn’t improperly assigned to applications lacking sufficient memory, which previously caused issues in games like California Games II. Users can download the latest version via the provided link.

DOSBox-X Git (2026/03/14) has been compiled. DOSBox-x is a variant of DOSBox. DOSBox emulates an Intel x86 PC, providing sound, graphics, mouse, joystick, modem, and other essential features for running numerous classic MS-DOS games that are incompatible with modern PCs and operating systems, including Microsoft Windows XP, Windows Vista, Linux, and FreeBSD.
DOSBox-X Changelog:
* SDL1: Utilize the XDG_SESSION_TYPE environment variable to identify X11 or Wayland desktops; if detected, it prevents the fbcon and svga drivers from initializing.
* INT 21h memory resize: Avoid assigning MCB block ownership to the calling application if thereโs not enough memory to fulfill the request. Previously, California Games II would call INT 21h to resize a memory block to something like E934h paragraphs (possibly a bug in the game?), and despite returning an error, INT 21h would still assign ownership to the first free block available. This caused issues later when the game didnโt have enough memory for another allocation after helicopter takeoff, resulting in an error.
