Universal
You can now select and utilize updates and DLCs without needing to install them to NAND
On Android, this is done under Settings -> Manage Game Folders -> “+” -> External Content Folder
On Desktop, navigate to Settings -> General -> External Content
Configurable speed-up and slow-down hotkeys have been added
On Android, find this in the Quick Settings menu
Some frequently-used sets and maps have been revamped for faster performance
Automatic generation of the web token and username
The console and battery serial numbers are now auto-generated
This may help protect against malicious mods or programs that might attempt to detect if they are operating on an emulator.
Enhanced JIT caching and page performance
Resolved issues with game switching in Super Mario All Stars
Corrected booting issues for certain games requiring an attached microSD card
Addressed regressions in Sonic x Shadow and NSMBU Deluxe
Fixed flickering and performance issues in Luigi’s Mansion 3 (again)
Renderer
Boosted rendering efficiency on Mali-based chipsets
Enhancements to macOS/MoltenVK surface management
Introduced an option to define the target frame pacing
This optimizes frame pacing when the monitor refresh rate and game FPS are inconsistent.
Rectified ongoing ExtendedDynamicState-related graphical problems on Windows
Desktop
A grid view has been introduced
Game titles can be hidden for a TV-like icon-only interface
Access this via the View menu
Now allows mod and cheat imports from a folder or zip file
The game list scrolls smoothly with a mouse wheel and supports horizontal scrolling
Addressed incorrect axis ordering for Nintendo controllers
Android
Removed the now-redundant LRU Cache setting
A new button has been added to the home screen to launch the Switch home menu
Profile management has been integrated, based on the desktop version
Resolved some issues with Quick Settings
Added GPU debug logging
Internal
The minimum Vulkan version required is now 1.4.321
The build system is now relatively stable, and changes will slow down for the foreseeable future.
Packages
Targets
Each build is tailored to a specific architecture and utilizes a designated compiler.
aarch64/arm64: For devices utilizing the armv8-a instruction set; e.g., Snapdragon X, all Android devices, and Apple Silicon Macs.
amd64: For devices employing the amd64 (also known as x86_64) instruction set; strictly used by Intel and AMD CPUs and limited to desktops.
Compilers
MSVC: The standard compiler for Windows. This offers the most reliable experience, although it may lag in performance compared to the alternatives.
GCC: The standard GNU compiler; the default for Linux, providing a stable experience.
PGO: Built with Clang, utilizing PGO (profile-guided optimization). PGO examines data from prior compilations
to pinpoint the “hotspots” in the codebase. By focusing resources on these frequently accessed areas, it typically results in improved performance of around ~10-50%,
depending on the specific game, hardware, and platform. Note that this may introduce additional instabilities.
