ATARI JAGUAR LYNX EMULATOR
Felix
Felix is an open-source Atari Lynx emulator with a Windows-focused build and active releases on GitHub.

WHY IT MATTERS
Why Felix exists
Felix provides a focused, native Windows Atari Lynx emulation target with debugging and scripting features (Lua), intended for accurate emulation, development and debugging of Lynx software.
BEST FOR
Best for
Users who want a Windows-native, developer-oriented Atari Lynx emulator with Lua scripting, debugging windows and buildable source code.
The people behind Felix
History and status
Felix is maintained on GitHub by the laoo account and has an active release history (tags and release notes visible in the repository). The project contains many commits and multiple formal releases (for example v0.6.4 is listed as the latest release). Development is primarily Windows-oriented: the README and build instructions state that the project currently builds only under Windows and is expected to run under Wine/Parallels-like environments. The repository also includes release notes describing incremental improvements (audio fixes, debugging features, HLE bootrom compatibility adjustments, sprite dumper and Lua library additions).
What Felix supports
- Atari Lynx (handheld)
- Windows (build & run target)
- Wine/Parallels (running Windows build in compatibility layers is noted)
- Lua scripting and debugging features

Setup note: Felix is distributed as source code with Windows-focused build instructions. The recommended approach is to build the project on Windows using Visual Studio 2022 and CMake, or run a released Windows binary from the releases page if available.
- Get the source or release: Visit the project's GitHub repository to download a release archive from the Releases page or clone the repository to build from source. If you plan to build, clone with submodules: git clone https://github.com/laoo/Felix.git && cd Felix && git submodule update –init –recursive.
- Prerequisites: On Windows, install Visual Studio 2022 (any edition), Git and CMake. The README specifies Visual Studio 2022 as the supported IDE. If you intend to run the binary under a compatibility layer, ensure your Wine or VM environment can run Visual Studio-built Windows executables.
- Build with Visual Studio (IDE method): Open the top-level Felix folder in Visual Studio 2022, set the root CMakeLists.txt as the startup item, then build the solution in Release configuration. After a successful build you can run the produced Felix executable from Visual Studio or the build output folder.
- Build from the command line (CMake): From a parent folder: create a Build folder, cd into it, run cmake ..\Felix, then cmake –build . –config Release. After building, run Release\Felix.exe from the build folder to start the emulator.
- Included assets and ROM/BIOS notes: The repository contains an asset named lynxboot.img. Do not assume commercial games, firmware, BIOS files or copyrighted ROMs are provided with the emulator. Users must supply their own legally obtained Lynx ROM images; Felix's README and releases do not include commercial game ROMs or third-party BIOS unless explicitly stated in a release asset.
- Running games and using debugging/scripting features: Felix exposes debugging windows and Lua scripting facilities (release notes and changelog reference added Lua libraries and debug windows). Use the emulator UI and provided menus to load cartridge images, and consult the repository's README and release notes for commands such as sprite dumping, frame save or audio dump features available in recent releases.
- Platform notes: Felix is primarily developed for Windows. The README suggests it is expected to run under Wine and similar environments, but cross-platform builds are not documented; a planned move to a multiplatform rendering engine (SDL2) was mentioned in release notes as future work.
- Troubleshooting: If you encounter audio or sync issues, check release notes and open issues on the GitHub repository. For build problems, ensure Visual Studio 2022 and CMake are correctly installed and that you initialized submodules before building.
Software reminder: Felix requires users to provide their own legally obtained Lynx ROM images. The project repository and releases do not bundle commercial game ROMs or proprietary firmware.
