COMMODORE 64 AMIGA EMULATOR
vAmigaWeb
vAmigaWeb is a web-first Amiga family emulator with builds and a playable web interface that also targets iPad/iPhone and Android. It exposes machine presets, chip-level configuration, debugging tools and a playable web player intended for embedding on sites.

WHY IT MATTERS
Why pick vAmigaWeb?
Runs in the browser (WebAssembly/JavaScript) and is packaged to run as a Progressive Web App on mobile devices, making it convenient to try without a native install. It exposes detailed Amiga machine configuration (Agnus/Denise/CPU/memory presets), debugging views and a player that can be embedded into other web pages.
BEST FOR
Best use case
Quick testing, demonstration, embedding Amiga content on websites, and lightweight local use on modern browsers or as a PWA on iPhone/iPad/Android. Good for developers and tinkerers who want chip-level control and debugging tools in a browser environment.
The people behind vAmigaWeb
Project and status
vAmigaWeb is an actively maintained open-source Amiga emulator project whose repository and documentation are hosted on GitHub and on a dedicated project site. The project advertises builds that run in web browsers and as Progressive Web Apps for iOS and Android. The project documentation and news pages describe recent feature work (for example AGA/A1200 support and a memory heatmap) and player/embed capabilities. The source and site indicate regular activity and issues/discussion on GitHub; releases and downloadable assets are provided via the repository's Releases area. As with most emulators that emulate commercial platforms, vAmigaWeb does not bundle proprietary Kickstart ROMs or commercial game files — users must provide legally obtained system ROMs and game data when required by the emulator.
What vAmigaWeb supports
- Web browsers (desktop and mobile)
- Progressive Web App (iPad / iPhone / Android)
- Embedding a vAmigaWeb player into websites (JavaScript player)
- Local runs from the repository (builds in repo)

Setup note: The following setup steps describe using the official web build, installing as a PWA on mobile, embedding the player, and running local builds from the repository. Where the emulator requires Amiga Kickstart ROM or other proprietary files, you must obtain them separately and legally; vAmigaWeb’s project files and pages do not include commercial ROM images.
- Try the hosted web build: Open the project’s GitHub Pages site (the project publishes a live web build). Use a modern Chromium-based browser, Firefox, or Safari. From the site you can launch the emulator UI, choose an Amiga machine or chipset configuration, and load workspaces or disk images via the UI.
- Install as a Progressive Web App (mobile): On iOS or Android, open the web build in the device browser. Use the browser’s install/add-to-home-screen option to install the site as a PWA; the project’s manifest configures fullscreen behavior for mobile installs. After installation the emulator runs like a standalone app but still relies on the browser runtime and the project’s web resources.
- Provide Kickstart ROMs and disk images: vAmigaWeb does not include commercial Kickstart ROM files. When the emulator requests a Kickstart or other proprietary images, upload or point the emulator to legally obtained ROM files or disk images using the emulator’s file/load interface. The documentation and UI refer to workspace handling and a ZIP-based workspace export/import workflow — when exporting a workspace from native vAmiga apps, zip the workspace into a single file before importing to vAmigaWeb.
- Embed the vAmigaWeb player on a website: The project provides a JavaScript player (vAmigaWeb_player.js) and documentation for embedding a playable instance into other sites. Host the player script along with the required web assets (or reference the project’s hosted build) and initialize the player per the project’s example pages on the docs site. Test embedding locally or on a test server before public deployment.
- Build and run locally from source: Clone the official GitHub repository. The repository contains CMake files and a web build pipeline (source tree includes Core, JS, assets, and web entry points). Follow the repository README and documentation for building — typical steps involve installing the required toolchain (Emscripten or other web-target toolchain if you plan to build WebAssembly), running the build commands, and serving the generated web files from a local HTTP server. Running directly from source will still require you to provide any Kickstart ROMs and disk images.
- Use debugging and machine presets: vAmigaWeb exposes machine presets (for example A500/A1200 selections) and also lets you assemble configurations by selecting Agnus/Denise/CPU/memory options. The UI includes debugging tools such as a memory viewer/heatmap and a RetroShell debugger for step/next commands; consult the project news and docs for current debugger capabilities and keyboard/control mappings.
Software reminder: vAmigaWeb’s publicly distributed site and repository do not include proprietary Amiga Kickstart ROMs or commercial game files. Obtain those files yourself from legal sources if required by the software you intend to run.
