Negatron v1.0.2, a front-end for MAME, aims to simplify managing the extensive list of machines supported by the emulator, including arcade machines and consoles. This release addresses issues on macOS Aarch versions, previously causing launch delays due to unresolved security prompts. It now supports MAME 0.278+, managing both integer and decimal types for the audio_latency option. Additionally, Negatron is compatible with Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controllers on Windows and Linux, leveraging SDL3, though not on macOS due to Appleโs security restrictions on unsigned applications. The update enhances usability and broadens compatibility with modern gaming hardware.

Negatron v1.0.2 has been launched. Negatron serves as a new front-end for MAME, the popular multi-system emulator. Designed primarily to help users navigate the extensive list of machines available in MAME, it encompasses arcade machines, consoles, and computers. The application aims to minimize user hassle by automatically checking for any updated or changed resources.
Negatron Changelog:
This latest update resolves the issues encountered with the Aarch version of macOS. Certain security restrictions failed to trigger on macOS for various reasons, which caused Negatron to become unresponsive at launch as it awaited macOS to lift its security hold. Meanwhile, macOS was also waiting for users to approve permission requests that they couldn’t see because the necessary prompts weren’t displayed… Hopefully, this has been addressed.
Additionally, this release ensures Negatron’s compatibility with MAME 0.278+. Generally, Negatron handles MAME configuration changes effectively; however, with MAME 0.278, the audio_latency option transitioned from an integer to a decimal type. This unexpected change previously hindered Negatron’s ability to interpret the new data format. It can now accommodate both data types for this specific option.
Lastly, a significant update in Negatron involves support for Nintendo Switch 2 Pro controllers. The original version of this controller works with most PC desktop OSes due to its adherence to industrial standards, whereas the second version adopted proprietary protocols. Thanks to the latest SDL3 update, Negatron can now support wired Switch 2 Pro controllers on Windows and Linux, but not on macOS due to unresolved Apple security concerns affecting free unsigned applications like Negatron.
