Nintendo Sues Family Over Mario-Themed Cancer Charity Bracelets

In a shocking turn of events that has left the gaming community stunned, Nintendo has filed a lawsuit against the Johnson family of Bakersfield Indiana, for selling Mario-themed cancer awareness bracelets to raise money for charity.

The Johnson family, whose 8-year-old daughter Emma is currently battling leukemia, had been making and selling colorful silicone bracelets featuring Mario’s iconic mushrooms and stars to help offset their mounting medical bills and donate to cancer research.

“We thought it was a cute way to combine Emma’s love for Mario games with our fundraising efforts,” said Sarah Johnson, Emma’s mother. “We never imagined it would land us in legal trouble.”

Nintendo’s legal team, however, saw things differently. In a statement that left many questioning the company’s priorities, Nintendo spokesperson Reggie Fils-Aimé Jr. said, “While we sympathize with the Johnson family’s situation, we cannot allow unauthorized use of our intellectual property, even for charitable causes. Mario’s mushrooms belong to us, not to cancer patients.”

The gaming giant is seeking damages of $200,000 – coincidentally, the exact amount the Johnsons had raised for Emma’s treatment and cancer research.

When asked if this move might damage Nintendo’s public image, Fils-Aimé Jr. replied, “We believe our fans will understand. After all, what’s more important: helping sick children or protecting the integrity of a fictional plumber’s fungi-based power-ups?”

The news has sparked outrage on social media, with the hashtag #MushroomsForEmma trending worldwide. Some fans have even started a campaign to mail mushroom-shaped objects to Nintendo’s headquarters in protest.

Meanwhile, the Johnsons are considering a countersuit, claiming that their bracelets fall under “fair use” because Mario would clearly support fighting cancer if he were real.

As the legal battle unfolds, one thing is certain: in the game of life, it seems Nintendo is determined to have the high score, no matter the cosst.
