Nintendulator 0.985 beta (2025/12/27) has been released. Nintendulator is a free, open source Win32 NES emulator developed in C, augmented with some assembly for optimization. The initial aim was to replicate the NES with all its hardware quirks; although it has lagged over time, recent updates have significantly improved its capability to emulate specific behaviors often overlooked by other emulators. This high level of emulation accuracy does require a more powerful system, needing an estimated 1500MHz CPU or faster for optimal performance.
File formats supported include .NES, UNIF, FDS (fwNES format), and NSF. Mappers are utilized via external DLLs, adding extra sound channels for many games that support them. Additional key features consist of the ability to write to FDS images (by saving the differences in the SRAM folder), limited Game Genie support (up to 3 codes), customizable controllers (including configurations for 4 players), input movie recording and playback (with re-recording options), AVI capture functionality, and a built-in debugger.
