It features a plug-in architecture that enables third-party developers to craft their own versions of specific components. Project64 allows users to play Nintendo 64 games on their PCs by utilizing ROM images, which can either be extracted from the memory of Nintendo 64 cartridges or created as homebrew software. Initially, Project64 was a project by Jabo and zilmar, aimed at testing their ability to develop a Nintendo 64 emulator. It is now open source.
