One familiar world, a very different way through it These are still Mario's stages. Outrageous has its pipes and forest hazards, Mondo has its tide, Tubular has its balloon flight, and Valley Fortress has its crushers. Mega Man brings a different answer to each problem. The Buster shoots straight ahead, holding the fire button builds a partial or full charge, and Down plus B sends him sliding along the ground. Rush supplies the extra height when a regular jump will not do. The player artwork comes from Mega Man 7 at its native resolution, with original palettes and dedicated action poses. There is a vertical 28-point health gauge, health and weapon-energy pickups, damage recovery, and a pause screen for choosing equipment. Ducking uses a low pose, horizontal pipe travel tucks Mega Man behind the pipe, and the castle's climbing sections have climbing frames. This has grown well beyond changing Mario's colors and handing him a fireball. Running deserves an early mention because Mario's old courses still expect some long jumps: hold L and a direction to run, then press B to jump. L does not pan the camera. If Chocolate Fortress's opening gap looks unreasonable, make sure you are using that extra speed. The equipment menu brings weapons and the Super Adapter from Mega Man into Super Mario World. Larry was only the first appointment The new overworld follows an eight-stop route through the Valley of Bowser. Seven stages each finish with two encounters: a Koopaling, followed by the Robot Master who carries that stage's weapon. A victory jingle and fade lead from the first fight to the second. Boss health bars show how the battle is going, and checkpoints are intended to put you back at the encounter after a death. Outrageous: Larry, then Shade Man, for Noise Crush.Chocolate Fortress: Morton, then Spring Man, for Wild Coil.Mondo: Wendy, then Burst Man, for Danger Wrap.Awesome: Iggy, then Cloud Man, for Thunder Bolt.Valley of Bowser 2: Roy, then Slash Man, for Slash Claw.Tubular: Lemmy, then Freeze Man, for Freeze Cracker.Valley Fortress: Ludwig, then Turbo Man, for Scorch Wheel.Bowser's Castle: Bowser from Super Mario Bros. 3, followed by Super Mario World's Clown Car fight. The Koopalings use their original-size Super Mario All-Stars sprites. They can turn, jump in either direction, and attack from different positions, with changes to their patterns as their health falls. Roy's landing can shake and stun a grounded Mega Man, so getting into the air at the right moment is useful. The Robot Master rooms add platforms and ledges, with familiar dangers such as Shade Man's dives and Cloud Man's marked lightning strikes. Shade Man has questions for Mega Man before their fight in this Super Mario World crossover. There is a story running through the encounters too. Dr. Wily has banished Mega Man to Bowser's world, and the trail home leads through conversations with each opponent. Their sprites face each other above a coin-block-bordered dialogue box, the music stops while they talk, and the fight begins after they drop into the arena. Weapon rewards bring another piece of the story. The ending can wait for your playthrough. A growing collection of suits and weapons Noise Crush rewards you for catching its rebound and firing the powered wave back. Wild Coil launches springs in both directions, with a charged version and adjustable rebound height. Danger Wrap can trap suitable small enemies in a bubble or plant a mine with Down plus Y. Thunder Bolt splits into sparks after hitting a target that survives, while Slash Claw gives Mega Man a close-range ground or air attack. Freeze Cracker can be aimed upward or downward and breaks into shards against terrain. Scorch Wheel forms around Mega Man before rolling away along the floor. An optional Junk Shield cache brings the total to eight special weapons. There is also a hidden Super Adapter upgrade to find on a return trip to Tubular, adding Rush's armor merge, a returning Rocket Buster fist, and an aerial thruster boost. The armor trades away sliding, so there is a reason to change equipment for the next section. The soundtrack joins in with the crossover. Outrageous opens with an arrangement of Mega Man 7's opening-stage theme before handing over to SMW's Here We Go. Chocolate Fortress and Mondo change tracks later in their routes, and the Koopaling and Robot Master battles use Mega Man 7's boss theme. Sampled effects cover the Buster, charging, movement, damage, refills, Rush, and the special weapons. The controls to keep beside your controller D-pad: Move.B: Jump. Release early to shorten the rise.L + a direction: Run. Keep L held and press B for a running jump.Y: Fire. Hold and release for a Buster charge shot.Down: Duck while standing on the ground.Down + B: Slide, except when Super Adapter is active.R: Call Rush Coil on flat ground, then jump onto his back.Start, then Up or Down: Choose an unlocked weapon or suit. B, Y, or Start confirms and resumes play.B during dialogue: Finish or advance the page. Start skips the conversation. Those are SNES button names. Check your emulator's input mapping if you play on a keyboard or a controller with different labels. The project page and included player guide explain the individual weapons, Super Adapter controls, and installation in more detail. This is a beta, and we need your help This is just the beginning. The campaign has a connected route and an ending, but we need people to play it from a fresh file and tell us what happens. Recent work has slowed boss action, repaired enemy body and wing frames, cleaned up jump audio and prize blocks, and protected the graphics used by castle entrances and the final battle. There will still be combinations of terrain, enemies, weapons, and player decisions that need attention. Tell us if a jump feels impossible, a boss moves too quickly to read, a retry puts Mega Man in the wrong place, or a weapon seems ineffective. Garbled sprites, missing sound effects, sudden damage, and music interruptions all deserve a report. Include the beta version, emulator and core, stage or boss, equipped weapon, and what you did just before the problem. Screenshots help. A short video helps even more. Development testing uses BizHawk 2.11 with BSNESv115+, including focused graphics checks and campaign progression tests. Some automated scenarios use staged positions or invulnerability to isolate a feature. They do not replace a full human playthrough, and independent emulator and hardware testing still matters.
