You will recognize the pipes in Outrageous, Mondo's tide, and the crushers in Valley Fortress. The eight stages come from Super Mario World. Mega Man gets through them with his Buster, charged shots, a slide, and Rush Coil. Call Rush onto flat ground, jump onto his back, and he will spring you over obstacles that an ordinary jump cannot clear. Some gaps still need a running start. Hold L and a direction, then press B to jump. Remember that one before tackling Chocolate Fortress. There is a vertical health bar, health and ammo pickups, and an equipment menu for switching weapons. Mega Man keeps his Mega Man 7 sprites throughout, including the low pose for ducking and sliding. The equipment menu brings weapons and the Super Adapter from Mega Man into Super Mario World. The boss pairs are the main event. Morton leads into Spring Man, Wendy into Burst Man, and Iggy into Cloud Man. Later on you will meet Roy and Slash Man, Lemmy and Freeze Man, then Ludwig and Turbo Man. Defeating each pair earns another weapon and opens the next stop on the map. The final castle has both the Super Mario Bros. 3 Bowser and Super Mario World's Clown Car fight. The Koopalings can turn, leap in either direction, and change their attacks as their health falls. Roy's stomp can stun you if you are standing on the ground when he lands. The Robot Master rooms have ledges and platforms, so watch your footing while avoiding Shade Man's dives or Cloud Man's lightning. Boss checkpoints let you retry the encounter after a death. Shade Man has questions for Mega Man before their fight in this Super Mario World crossover. There are eight special weapons to collect. Bounce Noise Crush back to yourself for a stronger shot, send Wild Coil springs along the floor, or use Danger Wrap to catch small enemies and plant mines. Thunder Bolt, Slash Claw, Freeze Cracker, and Scorch Wheel round out the boss rewards. Junk Shield is tucked away in an optional cache. There is also a hidden Super Adapter in Tubular. It adds Rush armor, a returning Rocket Buster fist, and an aerial boost. You lose the slide while wearing it, so switch back when you need to squeeze through a low passage. Dr. Wily has sent Mega Man to Bowser's world, and the conversations before each fight gradually explain what happened. The music mixes Mega Man arrangements with SMW tracks, and the boss battles use Mega Man 7's boss theme. Quick controls: B jumps; Y fires and charges; L runs; Down ducks; Down+B slides; R calls Rush; Start opens equipment selection. Use Up or Down to choose gear, then B, Y, or Start to confirm. During dialogue, B advances the text and Start skips it. These are SNES button names, so check your emulator's mapping. This is still a beta, and I would appreciate more people playing from a fresh file. Tell me if a jump seems impossible, a boss feels too fast, a weapon acts strangely, or a death puts you in the wrong place. For bug reports, include the version, emulator, stage, and weapon you were using. A screenshot or short clip makes it much easier to find the problem. The latest bug-fix release repairs sprite graphics, pickups, and the flickering strip at the top of the screen. Testing has included BizHawk and automated boss and graphics checks, but more feedback from normal play is welcome. Download 0.1.1 Beta 1 and apply the BPS patch to your own clean, unheadered Super Mario World USA ROM (512 KB, CRC32 B19ED489). The ZIP includes installation instructions, a player guide, and credits. No original ROM is included. Start a new file rather than loading an old emulator save state.
