About this project

This is the Star Fox Object Dumper. Given the correct addresses for vertex and poly data, it will extract the 3D object at the given address to an .obj file.

It also handles the animated objects. For each frame, it outputs an individual .obj file, which can then be recombined into a single animated object in the 3D modeler of your choice, such as Blender.

So far, it appears that all SuperFX software uses the same model format, so this should also work with Star Fox 2, Vortex, Stunt Race FX, and so on. However, the author did not have a list of the data addresses to test these ROMs with. If you have those, please send them to the author and they will include them in an update to the repository.

Since this code is platform independent, the author has provided the GitHub repository for source code. You will need to build it for yourself, but should only need a basic C++ compiler that uses the recent C++ 2017 spec. No special libraries are needed or used.

If these executables do not work as-is, please try to build from directly from source before contacting the author. If you encounter bugs, wish to submit changes, or find models that are not properly decoded, please submit an issue on the GitHub so that the author can address it.

(Note: This utility was created before the Star Fox/Star Fox 2 source was leaked. However, if you would like to contribute to this project, please fork it and issue a pull request. However, if any contribs include the models or portions of the source beyond fair use, the author will not accept them as is.)

You simply provide it with an address in the rom file for the vertex data and the face data, and it will output the 3d model as an .obj file.

The command without any arguments will display the help message with options.

There are two executables provided:

	* For Windows:	sfxobjdump.exe
	* For Linux:	sfxobjdump

If you have trouble running these executables, please attempt to rebuild them from source on your own before reaching out to me on github. Most likely the issue is related to incompatible libraries on your system, and rebuilding with your own toolchain is likely to resolve it.

It works for animated objects, as well. Each frame will be output as an individual .obj.

It does not currently apply any textures from the ROM. For now, you will have to rip these and apply them yourself.

Happy Hacking.
