SugarDS v1.5 is an emulator for the Amstrad CPC 464 and 6128 on the DS/DSi, enabling on-the-go gaming. Launched in 1984, the Amstrad CPC stood out for its all-in-one design, gaining a loyal fanbase. The emulator supports .SNA, .DSK, and .CPR files, allowing for various homebrew games. Key features include full button mapping, a touch-screen keyboard, save/load states, and improved RAM support, with the DSi offering 1024K. Recent updates enhance CPU timing, Dandanator support, and disk swapping, while cleaning up configurations. Overall, SugarDS v1.5 provides a functional platform for experiencing Amstrad games.

SugarDS v1.5 has been launched. SugarDS serves as an emulator for the Amstrad CPC 646 and 6128 on the DS/DSi. Initially released in 1984, the Amstrad CPC competed with the ZX Spectrum and C64 in the UK and Eastern Europe. Despite entering the market later, its robust “all-in-one” design gained a loyal following. Today, it still has many enthusiasts and a wealth of impressive homebrew titles that leverage the system’s capabilities. While the emulator has its flaws, it should be sufficient to make most games enjoyable on the compact handheld, allowing you to experience Amstrad gaming while on the move!
SugarDS Features:
Emulates CPC 464 (64K) and CPC 6128 (128K) with 512K of additional RAM (1024K for DSi).
Loads .SNA and .DSK files, supporting up to 800K in total length (single and double sided).
Plus2CPC Cartridge Support allows loading .CPR files up to 512K (note, this is not a plus/GX4000 emulator but will manage cart files as long as they don’t need plus-features).
Dandanator Cartridge Support covers titles like Sword of Ianna and Los Amores de Brunilda, as well as most compilation packs. Files should be renamed to .dan for proper loading in the emulator.
Rough emulation of CRTC Type 3 with features for split screen handling, rupture, smooth vertical scrolling, and a reasonable imitation of smooth horizontal scrolling.
Complete button mapping – it supports all 3 joystick buttons of the Amstrad and allows mapping of buttons to keyboard keys.
Full touch-screen Amstrad keyboard styled after the colorful CPC 464.
Save / Load states for picking up where you stopped.
Full compatibility with the Spanish CPC 472 machine, which includes an additional 8K of memory! 🙂
SugarDS changelog:
The DSi now features a complete 1024K of extra emulated CPC RAM that does not conflict with the Disk/ROM memory space. DS-Lite remains at 512K of expanded CPC RAM.
Enhanced Z80 CPU timing – it’s now accurate enough that the old ‘CPU Adjust’ configuration option has been removed.
Improved Dandanator support for budget ‘ROMBOX’ functionality. Most game compilation packs are now operational.
Refined disk swapping, with a delayed ‘ready’ signal, which appears to improve Infocom games when loading and unloading the save disk.
Support for a single 16K Extended Upper ROM – name it as Sugar06.ROM and place it in /roms/bios or in the emulator’s directory.
Added DIAGONALS as a d-pad option in configuration. General configuration improvements have been made.
Transitioned to ParaDOS 1.2 (previously using v1.1).
