The announcement concluded by requesting privacy for Toriyama’s family during this difficult time and informing fans that future commemorative gatherings have not yet been decided.
Less than two hours after the announcement, Chris Kindred took to X to write, “toriyama gave us the best and worst black characters in anime in the same series, it took range to do that.”
This comment sparked immediate backlash from fans and fellow X users. George Alexopoulos noted that Kindred’s account had been suspended, calling the comment “f**ing racist” and disrespectful to Toriyama.

VastoLorde_x expressed disgust at Kindred’s statement, arguing that the black characters in Dragon Ball Z acted like every other character in the series and that Mr. Popo, a character some view as a negative stereotype, was a Djinn, not a black man. They concluded their post with, “Screw off pissing on a Dead man’s legacy. Screw you Chris Kindred. I hope you go bankrupt.”
TheDuke0fSydney condemned Kindred’s actions, calling them “Pure fing evil, PURE. FING. EVIL.” They went on to say that if this is how Sweet Baby Inc. employees act, the company “needs to crash and f***ing burn,” regardless of their level of control in the writers’ room.
