Approach Trainer

Approach Trainer goes straight for the part of flying that makes your palms sweat: bringing an Airbus A320 down safely. Instead of asking you to commit to a full flight, it lets you spend your time on descents, approaches, landings, and the decisions that turn a routine run into a recovery.

The narrow focus is its strength. With 58 airports, selectable weather, day or night conditions, and short or long descents, you can build a practice session around exactly the kind of landing you want to master. It is demanding rather than glamorous, but aviation sim fans who enjoy repetition with a purpose will find real value here.

Gameplay

The first hour of Approach Trainer is likely to feel less like a victory lap and more like a lesson in humility. You are dropped into the most consequential stretch of a flight, where descent planning, navigation, and a controlled landing all matter at once. That concentration is refreshing if you have ever wanted to practise approaches without spending ages getting airborne first.

Its flexibility gives the game legs. You can choose day or night, alter the weather, select a short or long descent, and work across 58 airports. That means a landing does not have to become a single rehearsed routine. Start with a friendlier daytime approach, then make the task tougher once the fundamentals begin to click. The improved navigational tools and flight model are particularly important in a simulator built around precision; they give your corrections and mistakes more weight.

The frustration is also built into the premise. There is little room to hide from a rough approach when landing is the whole point, and repeated attempts will be part of the deal. Still, that repetition has a clear payoff: you can identify what went wrong, adjust the next setup, and try again without a long preamble. Optional analog joystick control is a welcome fit for a game this focused on fine handling, while the competitive two-player mode adds a reason to compare composure with someone else.

Graphics

Approach Trainer uses a first-person flying view and brings graphical improvements over A320 Airbus (Edition USA). The visual focus stays where it belongs: on following an approach and judging the landing rather than distracting you from the work at hand.

Story

Every session creates its own small aviation story: a chosen airport, a set of conditions, a descent, and the question of whether you can finish cleanly. It is a simple arc, but it suits a trainer better than a forced narrative would.

Weather and time of day give those runs different character. A familiar airport can feel like a fresh test when you change the conditions, and a longer descent gives you more time to settle into the approach before the pressure peaks.

The real drama comes from execution. If you enjoy stories made from close calls, corrections, and finally getting a difficult landing right, Approach Trainer supplies them naturally through play.

Overall Experience

Approach Trainer is a specialist simulator, and it is better for committing to that identity. It does not dilute its purpose with a broad flight-sim checklist; it concentrates on the moments where preparation and control meet the runway.

Give it a chance if landing practice is what you want from an A320 simulation, especially if you like setting your own difficulty through weather, descent length, and airport choice. The 58-airport selection and two-player competition help prevent the focused format from becoming too narrow.

It will not be for you if the journey is more important than the approach. But if you can enjoy retrying a demanding manoeuvre until it becomes second nature, this is a compact, purposeful aviation sim with a satisfying learning curve.
