PLAYSTATION 3 EMULATOR
RPCS3
A high-performance open-source emulator for PlayStation 3 software, with a rapidly improving compatibility list and detailed per-game configuration.

WHY IT MATTERS
Practical PS3 preservation
RPCS3 makes a difficult multi-core console approachable on modern hardware. Its compatibility database, patches, and per-title settings help players understand what works and why.
BEST FOR
Experimenting with demanding titles
Use it for legally dumped PS3 games, testing patches, and learning how resolution scaling, Vulkan, shader caches, and controller profiles affect performance.
The people behind RPCS3
Built by an open development community
RPCS3 is maintained by contributors who reverse-engineer system behavior, review compatibility reports, improve the CPU and GPU emulation cores, and document fixes in public issue trackers.
What RPCS3 supports
- PlayStation 3 disc and digital titles from your own dumps.
- Vulkan, OpenGL, and modern GPU backends with resolution scaling.
- Save states are not the normal workflow; use in-game saves and verified virtual storage.
- Custom patches, shader caches, controller profiles, and per-game configuration.

Before you begin: RPCS3 requires a legitimate PS3 system software file and games dumped from hardware you own. Firmware and games are not included.
- Download the current build from the official RPCS3 site and extract it to a writable folder.
- Install the matching PlayStation 3 system software through File → Install Firmware.
- Dump your own disc or digital title, then add its folder through File → Add Games.
- Start with the default Vulkan renderer, compile shaders patiently, and only then tune resolution or frame limits.
- Create a per-game custom configuration when a title needs patches, a different SPU decoder, or controller mapping.
- Keep RPCS3, firmware, and game updates together; recheck the compatibility database after major emulator updates.
ROM reminder: RPCS3 does not include commercial games, firmware, or copyrighted downloads. Use software dumped from your own discs or console.
