About this project

Rhythm Tengoku is a quirky rhythm game for the GBA. It came out in Japan in 2006, but never made it anywhere else. Its 2 sequels (Rhythm Heaven and Rhythm Heaven Fever) have been translated and released overseas, but Tengoku never was.

Probably because of how late Tengoku came out (almost 2 years after the DS) and how odd it was, Nintendo declined to translate it. The fan-translation for the game is called "Rhythm Heaven Silver."

Release Beta 10a as of December 2013 is a complete text translation with a great deal of graphics translated (at least 80%) and some bugfixes. New releases culminating in Beta 13a appeared in 2019, including a translated debug menu and a few name changes consistent with Rhythm Heaven Megamix.

Instructions (from http://gbatemp.net/threads/rhythm-tengoku-translation-rhythm-heaven-silver.330147/ )

1. Support the Franchise
Buy the game. Rhythm Tengoku is expensive, but you need it in order to play the translation hack. The game costs around $40-$60, it seems.
Buy Rhythm Heaven (DS) and Rhythm Heaven Fever (Wii). Both are still sold cheaply. The DS game is under $10, and the Wii version is around $20.
Register the DS game and Wii game on your region's Club Nintendo website. Take 10 minutes and fill out the surveys for it, and mention how much you like Rhythm Heaven and wish Rhythm Tengoku would come to America / Europe, even as an untranslated digital download on the 3DS or Wii/Wii U eShop. If you like the games, let Nintendo know!

2. Patch Your Game
Backup your Rhythm Tengoku cartridge. (You can use GBA Backup Tool.)
Download the latest patch.
Keep a clean backup of Rhythm Tengoku.gba. Each new patch will require an unmodified ROM.
Patch the ROM with Lunar IPS or a similar IPS patcher. Your ROM is now in English.
(Optional) Configure your flashcart / emulator to use a completed save file.
Use a GBA flashcart or slot-2 expansion pack for DS to play the game. Emulators can be used, but be aware that glitches and slowdown are possible. You can try these emulators:

Windows: VBA-M / VBA / no$gba
Linux: mednafen / VBA-M
OSX: VBA / VBA-M

Known bugs:

The "go for a perfect" box for Remix 3 and Remix 5 is broken. A minor ROM hack is probably required to fix it.
Graphical text cannot currently be edited or translated. Some text is still in Japanese because of this.
(NP) means (No practice.). "Spaceball Game" does have practice. The song doesn't start until you hit a few balls correctly.
The*Bon Odori and The*Bon Dance: Sprites flicker because there are too many letters on-screen.
In a list of comments at the end of a game, all comments will be capitalized. This leads to comments like "Also, You nailed every move!"

Translator's note: Isn't it great that you're
playing this in English? This free fan-translation
is a collaboration between several people.

Dirtie started the project way back in May 2007.
Since then, it has passed through four “owners”
and many other contributors. Here we are
over five years later and the translation hack
is still unfinished.

These are the people I know of that helped
this project get to where it is today.

Forgive me if I am not aware of your
contribution. Send me a message and
we'll work it out.

This project wouldn't have gotten off the
ground if Spikeman hadn't sent me his
Atlas script. Thanks a bunch. (And the script
was edited from pelrun's original version.)

Nagato found that Y.S. posted usable
information about his Rhythm Tengoku
hacks. Thanks for recovering them;
they were over five years old.

SirNiko has been extremely helpful. The hack
would be taking much longer (or be dead for
the fourth time) without his writing, thorough
testing, and assistance in so many other ways.

Although many people are credited here, the
project is only actively being worked on by
myself (W hat) and SirNiko. We could really
use some ROM hackers, translators, and
testers.

You may notice that the graphics in this
game are still in Japanese. Without a ROM
hacker, we do not have the skill necessary
to extract and replace images. If you are a
ROM hacker and want to help us, please
let us know.

If we do get to the point where sprites can
be edited, we will need competent pixel-artists
to make English versions of the graphics that
are in Japanese. But...

Because we have no way to put your hard
work into the game, don't contact us just yet.
Once we find a ROM hacker, we would love to
include your images in our project.
Hang tight until then.

Want to see this game get a proper
translation from Nintendo? We do too!
To help this cause, you need to:

-buy the Rhythm Heaven games on the DS and Wii
-fill out those games' Club Nintendo surveys
-mention Rhythm Tengoku in the surveys
-ask for Rhythm Tengoku as an untranslated
digital download on the 3DS or Wii U.

Any interest shown in the Rhythm Heaven
series helps future games get made. And
maybe, if enough interest is shown, Nintendo
will put out Rhythm Tengoku digitally.

And if that release sells well, they'll translate it.

It doesn't hurt to try!
Now answer those surveys!

In conclusion, thanks for playing the game. It's
no fun making something that nobody else
cares about. Enjoy!
