About this project

This editor will let you open the ROM of any Genesis/Mega Drive version of Zombies Ate My Neighbors and adjust many things in the game to your liking, and you can then patch those changes into your ROM. Has been tested on the USA and European ROMs, as well as the "SRAM" ROM hack here at RHDN, and worked fine. The editor uses pattern searches instead of static ROM addresses to find all of the ROM addresses it needs, which is what allows it to work on any ROM.

Features:

* Lets you play as the monster. Unlike when you use the Monster Potion in the game, with this option you can use weapons, go swimming, use trampolines, etc. You can also break walls (just like with the Bazooka) with some of the other weapons.

* Lets you enable a very basic level select feature from within the game (in the Option menu), that lets you choose what level you want to start from.

* You can change the music in level 1 to any song you want, or you can shut the music off. If you want to hear an unused song while playing level 1 (Zombie Panic), enter a value of 1 in the music adjustment.

* Can have it so that the zombies ignore you and the neighbors.

* There is a Dump button that will dump all of the ROM addresses that it finds into a text file. Text file will include the name of the game, all of the ROM addresses it found, as well as the values and descriptions for each address.

* Each section has two buttons to show you the normal/default values, as well as the current values in the ROM (useful if you've already made changes to the ROM).

* Can edit starting (new game) values like lives, level, ammo, etc.

* There is a Health section for starting health (new game), health after you lose a life, and health from a First Aid kit. There is a box you can check that will keep these 3 health values the same (recommended).

* Can edit how much damage some of your weapons cause.

* Can edit how long things last, like how long you’re invincible after getting hit or losing a life, as well as how long some of the potions last (Monster potion, etc).

* Can edit how much you get from many of the pick-ups.

* Can edit the hit points (HP) for some of the enemies, as well as all 3 of the final bosses. The final bosses have a lot going on with HP, so there are several different values you can adjust. Of course, using lower values for Enemy HP will make them easier to defeat, higher values make it harder. There is a separate info button with a lot of detailed information about the Boss HP adjustments.

* Can adjust how many points you get for each neighbor rescued, which allows you to make it easier or harder to get enough points for bonus victims, etc.

* There are options for: Walking faster, no kickback from the bazooka, and one that makes it so the zombies won’t hurt your neighbors.

* When you’ve made any adjustments you want to make, you have the option of patching the ROM you currently have open, or making a new ROM with all of the changes patched into it. This keeps your original ROM safe. If you make a new ROM, it will automatically have “Patched” added to the end of the patched ROM’s name, which makes it easy to remember which ROM was patched. Example: Zombies Ate My Neighbors (USA) Patched.bin

* There are Help/Info buttons that should answer any questions.

Version 1.0 = Initial public release. 5/25/2022

This program will let you open any Zombies Ate My Neighbors ROM (Genesis/Mega Drive) and adjust many things in the game, and you can then patch those changes into your ROM.

Will work on any version/region of ZAMN. Has been tested on the USA and European ROMs, as well as the "SRAM" ROM hack, and worked fine. The editor uses pattern searches instead of static ROM addresses to find all of the ROM addresses it needs. This is why it will work on any version of the game.

There are a couple Help/info buttons in the editor that should answer any questions.

There is a Dump button that will create a text file with lots of useful info like: Name of your game, all of the ROM addresses it found, as well as all of the values and descriptions for each ROM address.

When patching, you can decide if you want it to create a new ROM or not. If you do make a new ROM, the program will automatically add "Patched" to the end of your file name, which makes it easy to remember which file was patched, although you can name the new file anything you want as long as it's not the same as the original file name. This keeps your original ROM safe.

There are detailed instructions for the "Level Select" feature in the "Help" file.

Clicking on the check boxes for: "Play as the Monster", "Add level select in Option menu", and "Zombies ignore you and neighbore" will give you quick information about what those options do.

To listen to an unused song while playing level 1 (Zombie Panic), enter a value of 1 in the "Music playing in level 1" adjustment. Other values for other songs are listed in the "Help" file.

Shouldn't need any additional files if you're using Windows (uses the .net framework).
