A home for a growing scene

DCEmulation’s own history dates its founding to September 25, 2000 and credits 007Cheater. That date matters: the site did not spring into existence in 2001 simply because Dreamcast homebrew was getting more attention then. Its 2001 role was to connect releases, guides, forums, and people who needed help making a program boot from a disc.

An emulator download was only one step for a Dreamcast owner. The files had to be arranged, written to media, and understood when the console did not cooperate. A community site could turn a mysterious failure into a question another person could answer. That practical work made the code reachable.

A workbench for beginners

On June 9, 2001, the Dreamcast Developer site welcomed new developers. The opening material pointed readers toward tools, libraries, tutorials, demos, and disc creation. It did not pretend that everyone could write an emulator after one afternoon. It offered a place to start. The following day’s discussion of Dreamcast Linux showed the site thinking aloud through difficult topics.

This was a contribution distinct from writing NesterDC or DreamSNES. 007Cheater was building the room in which people could learn from those projects and perhaps try their own. The person who first arrived just to play could discover a route toward making software.

The handle in the historical record

The public sources used here credit the founder as 007Cheater. No legal name or verified portrait is attached. Using the handle respects the identity under which the work was done and avoids inventing private details.

DCEmulation’s later history grew far beyond one founding date. A fuller account could follow its forums, staff, disputes, and hosted projects across several years. This biography fixes the early milestones and gives that wider story a person to return to.
