Azahar 2126.1 Alpha 1, an open-source 3DS emulator based on Citra, introduces several enhancements and fixes. Save states are now linked to the version created, preventing crashes from loading mismatched states. Texture deletion issues and Vulkan crashes, particularly in games like Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, have been resolved. Internal resolution scaling has increased to 18x, while lag issues in games like Super Smash Bros 4 were addressed. Audio handling improvements have eliminated crackling sounds. The emulator has transitioned to an LLVM+Clang build, enhancing performance. Additional adjustments include updates for Android and macOS compatibility.

Azahar 2126.1 Alpha 1 has been released. This is an open-source 3DS emulator based on Citra.
Azahar changelog:
All
Save states are now specifically tied to the version of Azahar in which they were created. | @PabloMK7 #2394
Loading a save state from a different Azahar version will now present an error message detailing this limitation, and will inform the user of the Azahar version that originally created the save state, advising on temporarily downgrading to access progress through in-game saves if needed.
This does not restrict save state usage compared to prior behavior. Previously, loading a save state from an older version would crash the emulator; now it displays a notification instead.
Resolved a problem where texture surfaces could be deleted while still in use, particularly at higher internal resolution settings. | @Wunkolo #2407
This fix addresses Vulkan-related crashes across various games and scenarios, with a notable fix for starting missions in Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate.
The maximum internal resolution scaling setting has been increased from 10x (4000×2400) to 18x (7200×4320). | @72374 #1906
Fixed a crash in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Danger of the Ooze when using the Vulkan renderer due to inaccurate rasterizer cull mode settings. | @PabloMK7 #2396
Resolved excessive lag occurring in the character select screen of Super Smash Bros 4. | @PabloMK7 #2412
Fixed excessive lag in Mini Mario & Friends: Amiibo Challenge when walking on diagonal surfaces. | @PabloMK7 #2412
Addressed a regression causing the 3DS friends menu to crash upon opening. | @PabloMK7 #2412
Optimized GPU command list processing, reducing processing time by 0.5-1ms per frame on average. | @PabloMK7 #2318
Implemented geometry shader output register banking, improving many SEGA 3D Classics games without requiring per-game patches. | @PabloMK7 #2338
However, the mentioned games still face other rendering issues that will need resolution in future emulator versions.
Fixed floating-point denormal accuracy, resolving various rendering issues in multiple games. | @Wunkolo #2350
Corrected an issue that caused the 3DS Internet Browser to freeze due to incorrect core rescheduling behavior. | @PabloMK7 #2370
Improved emulated audio handling, eliminating crackling sounds when adjusting an audio source’s volume. @Grayforz2468 #2409
The Home Menu music now has no crackling issues.
Fixed an Vulkan renderer issue concerning disabled cubemap texture units. | @Wunkolo #2406
This fix was previously applied to the OpenGL renderer in a prior update.
Resolved an invalid memory access issue related to uds beacons, potentially addressing undiscovered issues in some multiplayer games. | @PabloMK7 #2403
Windows (MXE)
Fixed a crash that could occur when attempting to launch any app with the Vulkan renderer using the MXE build. | @OpenSauce04 #2392
Resolved an inconsistent frame pacing issue with the MXE build. | @OpenSauce04 #2392
Desktop
Lowered the minimum motion control sensitivity value from 0.01 to 0.001. | @ParadiseOfMagic #2383
Linux
Implemented measures to prevent missing application icons in specific desktop environment setups. | @Kyuyrii #1727
Android
Upgraded the target Android SDK from Android 15 (35) to Android 17 (37). | @OpenSauce04 #2416
Fixed several edge-case crashes related to surface handling that could occur during game startup, screen rotation, app suspension, or save state loading. | @PabloMK7 #2425
Resolved an issue where debug builds of Azahar on Android would crash instantly due to a logic error related to configuration validation. | @PabloMK7 #2398
Fixed a problem where if a 3DS application closed or encountered a fatal error and the user chose “Abort,” the emulator would crash instead of returning to the application menu. | @PabloMK7 #2399
macOS
Enabled Liquid Glass interface elements in macOS 26. | @OpenSauce04 #2429
Resolved an issue in macOS 27 where connecting to local network devices (like a real 3DS) would consistently fail (e.g., Artic Base, system files setup). | @OpenSauce04 #2428
libretro
Added “Stereoscopic 3D Mode” and “Stereoscopic 3D Depth” settings for the libretro core. | @XenuIsWatching #2339
Technical
The MXE build is now compiled using an LLVM+Clang based environment, replacing the previous GCC-based system. | @OpenSauce04 #2392
A huge thank you to @kleisauke, who has tirelessly maintained an unofficial LLVM MXE plugin in a GitHub repository for about a year and a half, despite only having a single star. Without their efforts, achieving this update would have taken significantly longer.
Added copyright years to all source code license headers. | @PabloMK7 #2415
Implemented a workaround for a current bug in the MSVC compiler. | @PabloMK7 #2410
Introduced a new CMake option, CITRA_ADDRESS_SANITIZE. | @PabloMK7 #2402
