id Software, Inc.
Founded February 1, 1991 by former Softdisk developers John Carmack, John Romero, Tom Hall and artist Adrian Carmack, id Software began in Shreveport, Louisiana and moved to Mesquite, Texas in 1992. The studio developed early PC platformers such as Commander Keen before shipping Wolfenstein 3D (1992), Doom (1993) and Quake (1996), and became known for its in-house graphics engines and first-person action games. Key creators tied to the company’s early era include programmers John Carmack and John Romero and designer Tom Hall. Titles in this archive reflect work the studio led or produced directly during that period. The game entries below, including versions and later rereleases grouped in this archive, span systems such as DOS, Windows, Game Boy Advance, PlayStation, Amiga, Jaguar, Nintendo Switch, SEGA Saturn, SNES, and Xbox 360.
