Nintendo R&D1

Nintendo Research & Development 1 (R&D1) was Nintendo’s original in‑house development department based in Kyoto, active from the company’s early entry into electronic games through the 1970s until the team was disbanded in the early 2000s. Longtime head Gunpei Yokoi led the group through the creation of the Game & Watch line and early handheld work that fed into the Game Boy era; the team is also credited with landmark titles such as Metroid and Kid Icarus. R&D1 continued under other managers into the 1990s and its final credited project appeared in 2004. The game entries below, including versions and later rereleases grouped in this archive, span systems such as Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, Nintendo Switch, NES, Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Wii, Arcade, Game Boy Color, and SNES.
