GAME BOY COLOR EMULATOR
peanut.vxp
Peanut.vxp — a port of the Peanut-GB Game Boy emulator to MediaTek MRE feature phones (distributed as a .vxp). It runs Game Boy and Game Boy Color ROMs on many Series 30+/MRE phones and is published on GitHub with source and releases.

WHY IT MATTERS
Why this project exists
Peanut.vxp adapts the Peanut-GB core to run on MediaTek MRE (Series 30+) devices so simple feature phones can run Game Boy and Game Boy Color ROMs. The port focuses on compatibility with phones using MRE 2.5+ and provides a signed VXP that users can install on supported devices.
BEST FOR
Best uses
Playing original Game Boy and Game Boy Color ROMs on low-power feature phones that support MediaTek MRE apps (.vxp). Useful for hardware-constrained handhelds where mainstream desktop/mobile emulators are not an option.
The people behind peanut.vxp
History & upstream
Peanut.vxp is a platform port of the Peanut-GB project. The repository documents that the core is based on Peanut-GB and that the port targets MediaTek MRE (Series 30+) phones. The author and contributors adapted the emulator to MRE, tested it on a variety of Nokia, Alcatel and other low-end phones, and published source code and VXP builds in the GitHub repository. The README lists phones that are known to work and phones that fail due to MRE implementation differences or insufficient RAM.

Setup note: Practical setup notes: peanut.vxp is distributed as a VXP app for MediaTek MRE phones. The README documents how to build, sign, install, and where to place ROMs on the phone. Sound is experimental and disabled by default. Do not expect included commercial ROMs or firmware — you must supply your own ROM files and follow local laws.
- Get the official package or source: Download the latest VXP package from the project's GitHub Releases page, or clone the repository to build a VXP yourself.
- Build (optional): If building from source, follow the repository's instructions: install the dependencies required by the MRE Makefile and run make to produce a VXP. The source files and build scripts are included in the repository.
- Sign the VXP (Series 30+ phones): Many Series 30+ phones require the VXP to be signed with a SIM IMSI. The README references using an IMSI-based signing tool or service to patch the VXP before installation. Only sign with an IMSI you control; follow the README guidance and any phone-specific instructions.
- Copy ROMs to the phone: Put Game Boy / Game Boy Color ROM files on the phone's SD card in the folder E:\peanutvxp (the actual path may vary by device; if unsure, install and open the app, then check the generated config/log to find the correct directory).
- Install and run: Transfer the VXP to the phone, open it with the file manager, and install. Launch the app to browse and run ROMs. Use the in-app Options menu to configure key bindings and other settings.
- Troubleshooting: If the emulator fails to start, consult the README device compatibility table. Some phones fail due to broken or incomplete MRE implementations, insufficient RAM, or older MRE versions. Sound is experimental and may be disabled by default.
Software reminder: Peanut.vxp does not include commercial games, BIOS, or firmware. You must provide your own ROM files and ensure you have the legal right to use them.
