We are excited to announce the release of NgpCraft Emulator v2.9.5! This emulator for the Neo Geo Pocket and Neo Geo Pocket Color features a fast native C++ core (TLCS-900H + Z80 + K2GE video) powered by a PyQt6 desktop interface. Its timing is precisely calibrated with real hardware, ensuring that self-timed games (like Cool Boarders Pocket and Densha de Go) run at their accurate 30 fps, rather than the ~2Ã speed that other emulators may present.
Key Features:
A library equipped with cover thumbnails (grid/list/compact), live reflowing, as well as a search and sort function (by name, last played, most played, playtime, recently added, size, with direction toggle), favorites â
, and a never-played filter. Tracking of play count, playtime, and last played for each game is included.
Console booting â utilizing a real BIOS, Boot BIOS powers on the console as it would in real life: the Neo Geo Pocket intro plays and the game launches on its own, just like on the hardware.
Video options include integer/fit/stretch scaling, scanline/LCD-grid/CRT filters, color profiles, and real fullscreen capability. The canvas adjusts with the window; size presets are available (Ctrl+1âĻ5).
Experience black-and-white cartridges in color â play an NGP game on an NGPC, which colorizes it just like a Game Boy game on a Game Boy Color. Both versions of the machines can be selected â see Monochrome cartridges.
Save states â up to 8 slots per game (with toolbar options or using F2 to save, F4 to load, and F3 for slots).
In-game saves can utilize the game’s flash save, stored in the ROM, a separate file, or both.
A console that remembers â the coin cell preserves its BIOS settings and clock, ensuring the date is accurate next time. The RTC alarm is functional as well, sounding at the appropriate time.
Speed control features fast-forward (hold Tab) and adjustable speeds of 0.25Ã to 4Ã ([ / ] or the toolbar).
Rewind feature â hold , (or the âĒ toolbar button) to run the game backward; release to resume. Single-frame stepping is also available, with configurable buffer lengths (Off / 10 / 20 / 30 s).
Screenshots (F12, folder can be customized), FPS overlay, and a hideable player toolbar are included.
Controller support for Xbox-style (XInput) gamepads alongside the keyboard, complete with turbo/autofire options for A and B at 5â20 presses per second.
Fully customizable â console buttons and every in-game hotkey can be remapped, with notifications for potential binding conflicts. Console buttons are visually represented next to the image of the console for easy mapping.
Themes can switch according to your desktop’s light/dark settings by default, or you can choose explicitly between Light and Dark themes. Changes take effect live, without needing to restart.
Debug tools (F1) provide a comprehensive debugging environment: symbols, instruction step-through, call stack, raster event timeline, read and write watchpoints, an editable hex view with access highlights, RAM search, and audio analysis with VGM export. For more details, see Debugging.
ROM analysis â right-click a game to boot, drive, and diagnose issues. Check ROM analysis for more.
Crash reports â any ROM faults will generate detailed crash logs (location, PC, opcode, registers, memory & stack dumps).
An interface available in both English and French, which can be switched live with no restart required. Each language is stored in a single JSON file in lang/, making it easy to add new languages with just a file addition. Contributions are welcomed.
