ORIGINAL XBOX EMULATOR
X-OG_Mobile
X-OG Mobile is an experimental Android port of the xemu original Xbox emulator. It packages a vendored, Android-adapted xemu core as an arm64 Android app with Vulkan rendering, AAudio playback, controller input, SAF disc access and a basic game library UI. It is a proof-of-concept intended for Android devices (arm64) and does not include any Microsoft BIOS,h

WHY IT MATTERS
Why this project matters
X-OG Mobile brings original Xbox emulation to Android devices by porting an xemu-derived core and wiring Android-specific presentation, audio and input paths. It demonstrates that xemu can run as a standalone Android APK (arm64) and implements features useful on mobile such as SAF-backed ISO/XISO access and Vulkan presentation.
BEST FOR
Best for
Users who want to experiment with original Xbox games on modern Android arm64 devices and developers who want an Android-targeted xemu core or a starting point for mobile builds.
The people behind X-OG_Mobile
History & relation to upstream
X-OG Mobile is an independent project that vendored an xemu tree and adapted it for Android. The repository documents that it is not affiliated with Microsoft or upstream xemu and records the upstream xemu commit used inside XEMU_UPSTREAM.txt. The repository is presented as a proof-of-concept Android port: the APK contains prebuilt native core libraries under android/app/src/main/jniLibs/arm64-v8a/, and the README explains how to rebuild the core from the vendored sources using WSL2 and a Linux toolchain. The project supplies Android UI, Vulkan renderer path, AAudio output, controller input, and SAF-based disc selection without copying large disc images into app storage.
What X-OG_Mobile supports
- Android (arm64-v8a, minimum Android 10 / minSdk 29)
- Vulkan renderer on supported devices
- AAudio output
- Physical controller input
- SAF (Android Storage Access Framework) for ISO/XISO selection

Setup note: This guide explains verified, practical setup options: use the provided APK releases for easiest testing, or rebuild the APK from source to produce fresh native libraries. The project does not include Xbox BIOS, MCPX, HDD images, or game ISOs — you must supply legally obtained system files and games yourself.
- Option A — Install a released APK (quick start): 1) Visit the project's GitHub releases and download the APK asset for the release you want. 2) On your Android device, enable installation from unknown sources for the installer you will use (Settings -> Security/Install unknown apps). 3) Copy the APK to the device and install it. 4) Launch the app, grant SAF permissions when asked, and select an ISO/XISO via SAF or provide app-private MCPX/HDD files if you have them. Notes: releases are arm64-only and target Android 10+, so they will only run on 64-bit ARM devices running Android 10 or later.
- Option B — Build the debug APK from repository (verified steps): Host: Windows with WSL2 (Ubuntu 24.04) as described in the repository. Requirements: JDK 17 or 21, Android SDK platform 36, Android NDK 27.2.12479018, CMake 3.22.1. Steps: 1) Clone the repository. 2) Open a PowerShell or terminal and change into the android directory. 3) Build the app APK with Gradle: ./gradlew assembleDebug (or gradlew.bat assembleDebug on Windows). The repository includes prebuilt .so libraries in android/app/src/main/jniLibs/arm64-v8a/ so this produces a runnable debug APK without rebuilding the native core. If you want a fresh native core, follow Core Rebuild Notes (next step).
- Optional — Rebuild the xemu core from source (recommended for developers): The repo includes tools and scripts to rebuild the vendored xemu core inside WSL2. Verified requirements: WSL2 with Ubuntu 24.04, ~10 GB free in WSL filesystem, standard build utilities (git, curl, unzip, rsync, cmake, ninja-build, python3, pkg-config, build-essential). The README documents a background rebuild script (tools/wsl-rebuild-core.sh) that fetches the Linux NDK and meson/vcpkg dependencies and compiles arm64-android libraries, then installs the fresh .so files into android/app/src/main/jniLibs/arm64-v8a/. After the rebuild completes, rebuild the APK with Gradle as above.
- Required user-supplied files and legal notes: The project explicitly excludes Xbox BIOS, MCPX, HDD images, and games. You must provide your own legally obtained MCPX ROM, BIOS and/or game ISO/XISO files. The app can import MCPX, BIOS, and HDD images via app-private import or reference ISOs through SAF without copying full images into app storage.
- Runtime tips & compatibility: X-OG Mobile is arm64-only and targets Android 10+. Performance and compatibility depend on device Vulkan support and CPU/RAM. Use a physical controller where possible; the app supports physical controller input. The README lists known features such as xemu-generated EEPROM and RAWG metadata lookup; consult docs/known-issues in the repo for current limitations. If games fail to start, check device logs (adb logcat) and consult the repository's known issues and the upstream xemu project for core-level debugging.
- Troubleshooting and rebuilding notes: The README warns that rebuilding the xemu core is an involved process: the first rebuild downloads the Linux NDK (~664 MB), vcpkg, and meson subprojects and can take about an hour. The repo provides a script and notes about using WSL2 background processes. Keep the WSL home build directories (~xog-deps, xog-src, xog-build-android-aarch64) if you expect incremental builds; otherwise they can be deleted and recreated. When rebuilding fails, capture build logs and compare the pinned upstream commit recorded in XEMU_UPSTREAM.txt against the upstream xemu repository.
Software reminder: This project is open-source under GPL-2.0; redistributed binaries must comply with GPL and bundled third-party licenses. The repository does not include copyrighted Microsoft system files or games.
