Founded in March 1981 in Tokyo, Nihon Falcom Corporation emerged as an early Japanese computer-game developer and publisher focused on role‑playing and action titles. Masayuki Katō is documented as the company’s founder and long‑time chairman; Toshihiro Kondo appears later as a senior figure and president. During the 1980s and 1990s the firm produced the Ys and Dragon Slayer/Legend of Heroes lines and released series entries and standalone titles such as Brandish, Popful Mail and Romancia across Japanese microcomputers and later consoles and PCs.
