This DOS batch ranges from side-view wandering and educational platforming to tactical maps, ASCII delves, and famously competitive strategy games.

Alien Logic

Alien Logic’s Isho spellcraft pairs side-scrolling travel through Jorune with real-time fights on the same screen. Crystals permanently raise attributes, while prepared dysha sequences ask you to decide on offensive or defensive magic before trouble arrives.

Capture the Flag

the fog-of-war flag hunt turns each move into a choice between fast, exposed running and slower crawling. Captured units go to prison and can be rescued, so compare whether a direct flag rush or a prisoner raid sounds like the better opening.

DND

this 3×3 ASCII dungeon crawl begins with rolled attributes, a choice of Cleric, Fighter, or Magician, and a visit to the store. Five multi-level dungeons pack in traps, teleporters, altars, fountains, dragon lairs, and permanent death without saving.

Flash Attack

the tank duel in Flash Attack makes fuel, shells, mines, walls, and three ICBMs finite resources across a five-tank match. Hidden mines and walls that can imitate bases give the coordinate-based missile firing plenty of room for bluffing.

Heroes of Might and Magic

the first Heroes of Might and Magic sends four hero classes across a top-down map for mines, artifacts, camps, and enemy castles. Castle construction unlocks armies, then close-up hex battles put creature stacks and spells to work.

Heroes of Might and Magic II: The Succession Wars

The Succession Wars’ six factions expands the castle roster to Knight, Sorceress, Wizard, Barbarian, Necromancer, and Warlock. Its larger battlefields use spell points for casting, while maps support anything from two-player contests to six-way conflicts.

Ignition

Ignition’s overhead races puts Beetles, police cruisers, school buses, and trucks on tracks with hazards and risky shortcuts. Practice, single races, and a three-level championship sit alongside local or network multiplayer with vertical split-screen.

Maths and English with Rayman: Volume 3

Rayman’s tougher Volume 3 exercises wraps maths and English questions for children eight and up in a 2D side-scrolling format. It uses the same games as Volume 2 with harder questions, so compare it directly with the earlier volume before choosing between them.

Which would you revisit first: plotting an ICBM shot in Flash Attack, building a castle army in Heroes II, or trying to survive one more no-save DND descent?
