Nintendo Co., Ltd., founded in Kyoto in 1889 by Fusajiro Yamauchi, is the Japanese company historically responsible for manufacturing playing cards and later for developing and publishing video games and hardware under the name Nintendo Co., Ltd. from the 1960s onward. Under long-serving president Hiroshi Yamauchi the firm expanded into toys and electronic entertainment; later presidents include Satoru Iwata. Headquartered in Kyoto, Nintendo is credited as publisher on many entries in its company catalog, including New Super Mario Bros. Wii, The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, among others.
