Gameplay
A Robo enters a small arena with a body, gun, bomb, and pod chosen before the fight. That preparation gives the next exchange a little more personality than simply picking a fighter from a lineup.
Changing equipment can change the way a match unfolds. A different weapon asks for another approach to distance, while the arena leaves limited room to get comfortable.
The story competitions give the collection of parts somewhere to go. Multiplayer adds the pleasure of discovering whether a favorite setup survives an opponent who can change plans.
Graphics
The battles place brightly colored, toy-like robots in compact three-dimensional arenas. Town scenes use a different scale, with human characters moving between buildings and the places where Robo commanders gather.
Story
The adventure begins with a new Robo and a trip to try it out. A young commander enters a world where these little machines are part of ordinary life.
Competitions carry the journey from one opponent to the next. Meeting another commander also means facing another arrangement of parts.
The town gives the fights a setting beyond a tournament menu. Moving between encounters leaves room to look at the next purchase before returning to the arena.
Overall Experience
The best invitation here is the parts collection: build a machine, test it, and change what failed. Another gun can make an old opponent worth facing again.
The compact arenas keep the attention on the machines and their equipment. Anyone looking for long journeys across a battlefield is choosing a different kind of robot game.
Custom Robo suits an evening of experimenting with a setup and challenging someone to beat it. The story supplies opponents, but a friend can supply the argument over whose machine is better.
