Gameplay

At its core, this is beatmania IIDX 9th style: an arcade-rooted music/rhythm game brought to PlayStation 2. That alone gives it a clear audience. You come here because you want focused, repeatable rhythm action, the kind of game that invites another attempt when a performance falls short and makes improvement feel like the point rather than a side activity.

Tokubetsuban Complete does not change that proposition. Its stated additions are physical collector items, so the decision should begin with whether you already want 9th style itself. If the game’s rhythm-game challenge has you hooked, the bundle is a pleasant upgrade. If it does not, a poster and phone strap will not create that connection for you.

That clarity is a strength. There is no muddled pitch about a different campaign or a new mode hidden inside the title; this package puts the game first and lets the extras serve the fans already eager to spend more time with it. For an established IIDX player, that is a sensible and honest limited-edition approach.

Graphics

The most concrete visual additions are outside the TV: a 9th style poster and a set of stickers. They give the edition a little more color on a shelf or wall, while the metal phone strap adds a sturdier keepsake than the usual paper insert.

Story

This release’s real narrative is one of fandom rather than plot. Konami sold it through the Konamistyle web shop as a limited edition, and every extra reinforces the idea that it was meant for someone who wanted to mark their attachment to 9th style.

The V-Rare Soundtrack 10 CD is the standout piece in that story. A soundtrack gives the music a life away from a play session, which matters more for a rhythm game than it would for many other genres. It turns part of the experience into something you can revisit without booting up the PlayStation 2.

The poster, stickers, and phone strap are smaller gestures, but they round out the package nicely. None is essential, yet together they make Tokubetsuban Complete feel like a deliberately assembled fan item instead of a standard copy padded with one throwaway bonus.

Overall Experience

beatmania IIDX 9th style (Tokubetsuban Complete) succeeds as a special edition because it does not overcomplicate the purchase. You get the PlayStation 2 game, a music CD, and physical memorabilia with a clear connection to the same release. That is more appealing than a bundle of unrelated trinkets.

The limitation is equally straightforward: its value depends heavily on how much you care about IIDX and physical collecting. The bonus items are charming, but they are not substitutes for an interest in arcade music/rhythm games. Buy it for the game and treat the extras as the reward, not the other way around.

For a committed fan, this is an easy version to appreciate: the soundtrack has practical replay value, the poster and stickers are displayable, and the phone strap is a distinctive period piece. For everyone else, a standard copy of 9th style would make more sense if all you want is the on-disc experience.
