Aliens: Colonial Marines – Reconnaissance Pack

Reconnaissance Pack is a narrowly focused multiplayer add-on for Aliens: Colonial Marines. Its worthwhile material is easy to understand: three maps for Team Deathmatch and Extermination, a new Survivor map called “Off the Grid,” and cosmetic extras for the Xeno classes.

That makes it a sensible bonus for anyone still regularly playing the game’s competitive modes, especially Season Pass owners who receive it free. If you wanted a substantial single-player continuation or a broader overhaul, this is not built to be that; it is extra territory and customization for an existing multiplayer routine.

Gameplay

The Reconnaissance Pack asks a simple question: are you still queueing up for Aliens: Colonial Marines multiplayer? If the answer is yes, more maps are the part of this DLC that matters. Three new arenas join the Team Deathmatch and Extermination rotations, including “Shipwreck,” giving repeat matches a little more room to breathe than another round on familiar ground.

“Off the Grid” is the pack’s separate contribution to Survivor mode. That is a better fit if you prefer holding out against pressure to chasing kills on a competitive scoreboard, and it gives the DLC one clear reason to exist beyond standard-versus map rotation. A single Survivor addition is not an enormous draw on its own, but it is the kind of focused extra that can refresh a mode you and your friends already return to.

The remaining additions—new skins, fatalities, and heads for every Xeno class—are seasoning rather than a reason to buy in blind. They let regular Xeno users add a little personality to their chosen class, while the fatalities offer a more pointed finish when you land one. In practical terms, the maps carry the pack; the customization makes it feel less bare.

Graphics

The concrete visual additions are the new Xeno skins and heads, along with new fatalities. They are welcome for players tired of seeing their Xeno classes look the same across match after match, though this is a cosmetic refresh rather than a reinvention of the game’s look.

Story

There is no new campaign chapter or narrative hook driving Reconnaissance Pack. It stays in the multiplayer lane, so you should not expect “Shipwreck” or “Off the Grid” to deliver a new piece of the Colonial Marines story.

That narrow focus is at least honest. The DLC is about having another place to compete or survive, not about adding lore between missions. If story was the main reason you came to Aliens: Colonial Marines, these extras will not change your relationship with it.

For a multiplayer regular, the lack of narrative baggage can be a relief: you can jump straight into the new rotation without treating the pack as required plot material. For everyone else, it means the value has to come entirely from how often you play its modes.

Overall Experience

Reconnaissance Pack is modest, but its contents are sensibly aimed at the players most likely to use them. More Team Deathmatch and Extermination maps help the competitive rotation, “Off the Grid” gives Survivor fans a dedicated stop, and the Xeno cosmetics add a little extra ownership to repeat play.

It is harder to recommend as a standalone purchase to anyone who has already stepped away from the game. This pack does not offer a new campaign-sized reason to return; it adds more of the multiplayer experience you already either enjoy or do not. The value rises sharply if you play with a group, because new maps matter most when there are people ready to fill them.

Season Pass owners have the easiest verdict: download it, try the new maps, and see whether “Off the Grid” earns a place in your Survivor sessions. Everyone else should treat it as a small multiplayer top-up, not a rescue package. It is useful DLC for committed regulars and a very limited proposition beyond that crowd.
