From Ashes is the story-facing reason to choose this edition, since it brings an additional mission and character. It is far more meaningful than a hoodie or weapon skin because it promises another authored piece of the game rather than a decorative extra.

The included limited edition of Mass Effect: Invasion, collected as a four-issue comic book, gives you another avenue into this universe. A comic cannot replace an in-game chapter, but it is a welcome inclusion for anyone who enjoys having more than one format in a collector box.

The soundtrack download is another thoughtful touch. It will not deepen the narrative on its own, yet it is the sort of extra that can keep the game close after you have put the controller down.
