The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame

The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame starts from a strong kid-friendly fantasy: Bricksburg has been wrecked by alien invaders, Emmet’s friends are gone, and the rescue trip heads out into space. If you want a light action-adventure that lets you wander through new LEGO-flavored worlds with familiar heroes, that basic setup is easy to like.

The problem is that its movie tie-in appeal does more of the heavy lifting than the adventure itself. Master Building and planetary exploration give you things to do, but the game feels like a modest detour for fans rather than an essential follow-up. It is a reasonable pick for younger LEGO and movie fans, less so if you want a particularly fresh platform adventure.

Gameplay

You begin with a straightforward rescue mission, but the destination is bigger than Bricksburg. Alien monsters have wrecked Emmet’s home and captured his friends, sending Emmet and other heroes beyond their world toward the Systar System. That gives the adventure a welcome sense of motion: you are not simply cleaning up one ruined neighborhood, you are traveling through new places in search of the missing cast.

The core activity is familiar action-adventure territory, mixing direct character control with exploration and platforming. Master Building is the game’s main thematic hook, and it fits the LEGO premise better than a generic combat-first approach would. There is an immediate, simple pleasure in moving through a toy-brick universe and using building skills as part of the trip forward.

Still, this is not a game that makes its premise feel especially ambitious. Space travel and multiple worlds sound like they should give the adventure a bigger spark, yet the overall shape remains a fairly conventional licensed platform game. You should come for the chance to spend more time with this movie’s universe, not expecting the genre to be reinvented.

Graphics

The game centers its locations on the contrast between devastated Bricksburg and the off-world destination of the Systar System. That shift gives the journey more visual variety than a single-city sequel would have, while the LEGO-built setting keeps the worlds tied to the same playful toy-box fantasy.

Story

The story has a clean, immediately understandable engine: invasion, abduction, rescue. Alien monster invaders have devastated Bricksburg and taken Emmet’s friends, so the stakes are personal without becoming hard to follow. It is a sensible fit for a comedy-leaning family adventure, because you always know why Emmet is heading into danger.

Emmet remains the natural center of the trip, but the premise also makes room for other heroic characters to join the mission. The move beyond their home world gives the movie sequel’s setting a useful sense of scale. Rather than treating Bricksburg as the whole joke, the game lets the cast chase the problem into space.

Do not expect the rescue setup alone to carry a deeper dramatic arc. This is a licensed LEGO comedy adventure, and its story works best as a friendly excuse to reunite familiar characters and visit strange new worlds. Fans of the second movie will get more out of that connection than anyone coming in cold.

Overall Experience

The LEGO Movie 2 Videogame is easiest to recommend when you want something breezy, cheerful, and tied directly to the film. Its strongest card is the invitation to leave damaged Bricksburg behind and roam outward through a spacebound rescue adventure. Younger players and households already invested in Emmet’s crew have the clearest reason to give it a shot.

For everyone else, the game lands as a competent but limited licensed platformer. Exploring worlds and using Master Building skills are pleasant foundations, yet they do not turn the journey into a standout action-adventure. Frustration is most likely to set in if you arrive hoping the sequel’s bigger cosmic setting means a dramatically more inventive game.

At a good price, it is a perfectly serviceable extra chapter for LEGO Movie fans. The game’s store listing is useful for checking the broader release details before you commit. This is worth a casual weekend if the film’s characters and goofy science-fiction premise already make you smile, but it is not the LEGO game to prioritize if you only have room for one.
