Gameplay
Bases use fixed construction slots rather than free placement across the map. Choosing which buildings occupy those sites gives development a compact shape.
The surface and underground remain active together. Sending capable units below for gold and experience leaves another part of the force responsible for the battle above.
Heroes can carry equipment into campaign missions and earn experience through quests. Those rewards help support the army rather than existing entirely outside the strategy game.
Graphics
The 3D battlefield uses irregular terrain, walled compounds, and detailed fantasy buildings. A broad interface surrounds the action with the information needed to follow units and resources.
Story
The Heart of Siberys has rested in Eberron for a thousand years. Its power draws the attention of competing forces.
The Order of the Flame, the Umbragen, and the Lizardfolk approach that struggle from different sides. Their armies supply different ways into the conflict.
Campaign heroes pursue objectives and side quests as the wider war develops. An expedition beneath the battlefield can therefore serve both the story and the army.
Overall Experience
Dragonshard’s strongest idea is the split between commanding an army and exploring with a smaller group. The next underground reward has to be weighed against what is happening above.
Fixed base sites reduce some construction decisions without removing the need to develop a useful force. Resources and experience still need attention.
Players interested in an unusual use of the Dungeons & Dragons setting will find a different rhythm from a conventional party RPG. Its dungeon trips remain tied to a real-time battlefield.
