Race On

Race On is the kind of expansion that earns its space if Race 07 is already one of your regular racing games. Its hook is straightforward but substantial: it folds in 2008 WTCC and STCC material, then broadens the garage and track selection with US muscle cars, International Formula Masters, and Camaro Cup Challenge content.

That range is the point. Rather than asking you to buy into one narrowly focused championship, Race On gives an established sim-racing package more corners to explore. It is a good pickup for the Race 07 faithful who want fresh official-season material and a few different flavors of circuit racing without leaving the game they know.

Gameplay

The first thing to understand is that Race On is an add-on, not a clean-slate racer. You need Race 07: The Official WTCC Game, and the reward is more material for a game you already enjoy rather than a new set of fundamentals to learn. That makes the opening proposition unusually honest: if you are still hungry for more racing in Race 07, this has a clear reason to exist.

The 2008 WTCC and STCC seasons give the expansion its core purpose. For anyone drawn to licensed touring-car competition, updated cars and circuits are more than box-ticking additions; they are the reason to return, learn another set of tracks, and spend time with a fresh season’s machinery. Race On feels targeted at the racer who enjoys having a specific championship context behind a session.

Its smartest move is refusing to stop there. US muscle cars, the 2008 International Formula Masters, and the 2008 Camaro Cup Challenge widen the package beyond touring cars. That variety should make a real difference if you have already exhausted Race 07’s familiar routines, though it also means the expansion’s value depends on wanting several categories rather than being interested in only one of them.

Frustration can set in if you expected Race On to be a separate entry point or a major reinvention. It is content built on Race 07, and its payoff comes from the accumulated choice of cars, circuits, and licensed 2008 series. Come to it as an extension of a racer you already play, and that focus is a strength rather than a limitation.

Graphics

The expanded garage gives each race an immediate visual character. WTCC and STCC grids are packed with compact touring cars and busy sponsor liveries, the American muscle cars bring wider bodies and heavier silhouettes, and the low Formula Masters machines make open-wheel events feel faster and more exposed. Camaro Cup races trade variety for the clean spectacle of a closely matched field.

Race 07’s engine keeps the action readable at speed: cars separate clearly in traffic, track edges and braking zones are easy to follow, and the cockpit view keeps your attention on the next apex. Circuit scenery and surface detail can look plain beside the carefully presented cars, but once the pack compresses into a corner, the strong silhouettes and colorful liveries do the important work.

Story

Race On is driven by motorsport subject matter, not by a story premise. Its sense of occasion comes from the 2008 WTCC and STCC seasons and the additional named racing series, giving your time with it a licensed competitive backdrop.

That is enough for the right audience. If you like racing games because a real championship or recognizable class of car gives each event context, the season data carries more weight than an invented narrative would.

If you need characters, dramatic turns, or a campaign story to pull you through a game, this is not where Race On makes its case. The hook is the chance to spend more time in specific racing disciplines and circuits, not to follow a plot.

Overall Experience

Race On is a solid, sensibly scoped expansion. It does not need to pretend that extra cars and tracks are more profound than they are; for an invested Race 07 player, that extra material is exactly the value. The licensed 2008 content gives it a firm center, while the muscle cars, Formula Masters, and Camaro Cup additions prevent it from feeling too narrow.

The strongest recommendation is for someone who already likes Race 07 and wants a bigger rotation of series and circuits. Touring-car fans have the clearest reason to care, but the additional categories make this more inviting than a WTCC/STCC-only update would have been.

Skip it if you are looking for a standalone racing game or a dramatic departure from Race 07. Otherwise, Race On is a worthwhile continuation: familiar in foundation, broader in scope, and most satisfying when you treat it as more reasons to return to a racer that already has its hooks in you.
