HAL Laboratory, Inc.
Founded in Tokyo on February 21, 1980, HAL Laboratory, Inc. is a Japanese developer focused on console and portable games and related digital entertainment. During the 1980s and 1990s it developed software for Nintendo platforms and built a long working relationship with Nintendo. Satoru Iwata worked at HAL in the 1980s and later served as president; designer Masahiro Sakurai joined in 1989 and created the early Kirby games and the prototype that became Super Smash Bros. Notable HAL titles include early NES/Game Boy work such as F‑1 Race and the Kirby series.
