MAME4droid 2026(0.289) v1.41.2 has been released. Developed by David Valdeita (Seleuco), MAME4droid is a port of the MAME emulator created by MAMEDev and other contributors. It enables users to emulate arcade games and systems such as ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, MSX, and more. This version supports over 40,000 distinct ROMs.

Rollback NetPlay for improved compatibility and stability
Rollback technology enhances NetPlay, allowing it to resemble two players on a single machine rather than waiting on one another. This release focuses on addressing issues with games that previously couldn’t use rollback and sessions that would break mid-game.
Street Fighter III now supports rollback
All CPS-3 titles: 3rd Strike and the prior two versions, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, and Red Earth. Previously, these were constrained by Lockstep, which is not ideal for a fighting game.
The challenge was size. To facilitate rewinding, rollback stores numerous snapshots of the machine’s state, and CPS-3 snapshots were large due to all game assets loaded from the CD. Now, snapshots save only what the game modifies, fitting well within reasonable limits.
Games that fit this category will gain from smaller snapshots, leading to less memory usage and reduced processing for corrections.
Enhanced rollback capabilities
The host now automatically shares its machine state with the joiner, allowing previously untrusted games to utilize rollback.
Minimal session breaks
Joining and resyncing issues were common, with mid-game drops sometimes resulting in frozen machines or black screens. Snapshots are now taken after the completion of frames, ensuring the other machine can successfully resume.
Dealing with brief network drops is improved; if enough packets are lost, the affected frame is re-requested, self-correcting the session. This feature has been tested extensively for consistency.
Analog controls, including dials and spinners, now carry the live control state with the rollback.
Quick message options
The previous release noted a lack of chat features, which remains unchanged. What is now available is a list of fixed phrases — greetings, good game, wait, insert coin and start, and sign-off. Selecting one sends a number rather than text, displaying the phrase in the other player’s language. No typing or moderation is involved, and users can mute these messages.
Improved BIOS selection
For titles with multiple BIOS versions, the picker now starts with the game’s default BIOS, allowing exit without posting the room inadvertently.
Other enhancements
Dialogs will start with a sensible button selected, ensuring gamepad navigation through NetPlay without requiring screen interaction. The disconnect option is now located at the bottom of the menu, distinctly separated from other choices.
The public room board highlights the most active countries in a designated line.
Both devices must be updated
Due to changes in the network protocol, an updated device will not connect with an older one intentionally — this prevents sessions that appear fine from gradually deteriorating.
